Saw last night he has 4 earned runs allowed all year and 5 rbis. That nuts.
Went down a rabbit hole:

J.deGrom - 4 ER in 64 IP
L.Castillo - 46 ER in 64 IP

If Castillo were to TRIPLE Hershiser’s 59 IP scoreless streak & throw 177 straight scoreless innings, he would still have an ERA higher than JdG.

Most consecutive starts with no more than 1 ER to ever begin a season: deGrom - 10

Lowest ERA ever through first 10 starts: deGrom - 0.56

Fastest EVER to reach 100 Ks - 61.2 IP (broke the record that Bieber set last year with 62.1)

Best ERA EVER through first 10 starts (0.56)

Best WHIP EVER for a stretch of 10 starts (0.53)

I mean....what?!

Is he a sunscreen and rosin guy or a pine tar fella? Or a pelican wax man?

Its so hard to not be super skeptical about pitchers accomplishments now.

He's a statistical darling, with impressive numbers, but he doesn't help his team win

None. His spin rates have stayed consistent unlike guys like Cole & Bauer. He’s just that good. Throwing 100+ and consistently locating it on the corners, while complimenting that with a 92-93MPH slider, oh and a 92MPH changeup. He’s peak Pedro good, maybe better.

His spin rate is average and hasn’t ever changed.

He's more velocity than spin rates

Going into yesterday’s start, he had thrown 121 pitches at 100mph or higher as a starter.

The next starter (2nd most) had only thrown 10.

DeGrom is injured again
quote:

Then deGrom left the game after six shutout innings, just 80 pitches and a consultation with Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner. The team announced that he departed with right flexor tendinitis. The Padres scored two quick runs, and the dream scenario nearly turned into a nightmare.
Well, for everyone but deGrom.
"My level of concern is not too high," deGrom said of his elbow injury following the Mets' 3-2 win. "I'm pretty sure it's going to be something that we can treat and hopefully not miss any time."
DeGrom doesn't plan to seek an MRI or other imaging, and he expects to proceed with his normal routine in preparation for his next start, with a little extra treatment mixed in.

Wondering how this does for the rest of the season

They have been pulling him early since April on his starts. His longest outing over the last 5 starts has been 85 pitches: 80, 85, 70, 63 & 68.

He threw 90+ pitches in 4 consecutive games to end the April.

Throwing that hard as a starter takes a toll on a pitcher.

Because he obviously is having some shoulder issues... Probably needs to rest but he won't

Would be smart to skip his next start.
