NC is a huge baseball state. More so than TN I would argue.

Is it? I'd argue that North Carolina is a basketball state, and everything else, including football and baseball, is lagniappe. What makes NC more of a baseball state than Tennessee?

It’s played year round and there are major travel ball leagues in the state. This is part of the reason why CFB is lacking here. Locals would rather play baseball or basketball where as in TN, it’s football first. Tennessee is also lacking in little league facilities/infrastructure. We get people from eastern TN mostly, moving to our area often because of our local facilities and infrastructure set up around little league through high school.

College baseball is also very popular. Similar to how it is in the SEC. Basketball fandom here is way overblown.

I would go Nashville over Charlotte and Salt Lake City over my beloved Portland.

SLC would be absolutely beautiful if they framed the mountains correctly with the new stadium. Wholesome AF it would instantly be the new St Louis since demographics are destroying that once great city.

Move the Rays into actual Tampa and they wouldn't have issues.

A decade ago they should have. I don’t think they need to now.

At this point there is literally no reason to put a team in San Antonio over Austin.

I don’t know if it’s true that it’s easy to convert fans to a local team. I’m from Baton Rouge for example and have never cared about the Pelicans. I used the Rays as an example because they’re similar to Charlotte in that the majority of the town is populated with transplants. It would take a few decades and a generation of kids raised on the local team for the new franchise to really take hold because of the long time Braves fandom from locals and then whoever the transplants have rooted for their entire lives. Nashville is probably the better option as far having limited competition goes.

Converting all the Braves fans in NC would be a challenge. Charlotte also just built a minor league park that I'm pretty sure isn't expandable. There was a lot of conversation about a MLB team before they built the Knights stadium but it seemed like they chose to go the long-term Minor League route.

Salt Lake City would be a move for sure.

It will be far easier to sell the idea to San Antonio. The university of Texas will fight hard before any pro teams come to Austin. That’s why it hasn’t happened yet.

Football or basketball, sure. But you could get a baseball or hockey arena built there. UT doesn’t run Austin the way it used to.

We will see. I would put my money on San Antonio getting NFL or MLB before Austin.
