There's a reason why the 92 dream team is considered the best basketball team ever assembled,

because it was a major event and people love to believe the past was better than the present

Match that era's superstars with today and it's not close.

we did this all the time last summer and there is no clear winner

today's game is more advanced and efficient and the players are built for that game. people underestimate this

quote:

Hell Kobe and Shaq's Laker teams would beat them.

they'd probably beat most any team ever, mainly b/c shaq was just so good (with no historical match). funny enough (for this conversation) that team is neither in the 80s or current era. they were around at the NBA's lowest point since the 70s

Sports evolve. There are plenty of talented big men. They've just all become stretch 4s instead low post players.

exactly

on top of that, it's less efficient to rely on a post game (unless you have shaq in his prime)

there is a reason the spurs' offense isn't based around duncan anymore (and he can still play. he's going off this year)

the NBA today does have a lot of good post players who would put up some sick stats if they got the usage that the 80s/90s post men did. these guys just aren't as valuable, the system isn't as efficient, so they don't get the same hype

The fact is the PAST WAS better. Tell me ONE player in THIS era that could stop McHale or Magic , or Hakeem, or even Drexler or Barkley. There is NOT one.

If Kevin Garnett can do it so could McHale.

I like the past players more also, but to think LeBron couldn't give any of the guys you mentioned a run for their money is completely stupid

It's taken the NBA 25 years to realize how valuable the 3pt shot is. A 40% 3pt shooter is as valuable scoring wise as the most efficient low post scorer. (This doesn't take into account the intrinsic value of fouls, however.)

KG is a lot bigger and a shitload more athletic than mchale

KG doesn't rely on his post game as his main weapon like mchale did, either

oh but it is, that's why drivers who shoot good FT% are in demand

driving, pick/roll, and 3 point shooting

What on Earth am I reading here? In what way are KG, The Kid, and Beer Belly McHale remotely similar?

KG was an athletic FREAK coming out of high school.

No he is not. McHale was 6'11" He was huge and very mobile. McHale>> Garnett. YES. EVEN TODAY.

TRUE. So You have yet to answer me on who in this day could stop McHale. Hell Even Lambeer would have a field day with these punks nowadays. I would LOVE to see Durant even try to come into the lane with Lambeer there.

Oh of course. I'm right there with you. I was merely stating 3 pt shooter vs post player. I was trying to isolate it as much as possible.

I think the best case scenario are players like Kobe, Wade, LeBron that can be the pnr ball handler and low post/elbow post with shooters surrounding them. I'm a big fan of inverted play with a 5 who can sit in the corner or at 20ft-22ft. Gives you the versatility to combat different defensive styles, which is important with today's intricate defenses in my opinion.

not really

outside of some outliers, if you do 80s dunks today you get shite scores

jordan won a couple contests with a FT line dunk. that shite isn't anything today

Duncan MAYBE??????????????

AGAIN since you were NOT alive during the 80's you have NOTHING to work with. You are terrible at acting like YOU knew what when on in the past. HIGHLIGHTS DO NOT DO JUSTICE.
