I think what he was trying to say is that hitters have no way to retaliate outside of charging the mound and getting suspended for longer than a pitcher would be for throwing at someone.

Which that part is true. Especially in the American league when pitchers don't bat (another reason to hate the DH), they have no fear of being retaliated against. They can throw at people all day if they want to.

It's not. No one is going to die from a fastball to the head while they're wearing a baseball helmet.
You should go ahead and put on a helmet and test this out.

Okay show me a time in PROFESSIONAL sports with adults where someone has died getting hit in the head with a pitch

What does being a professional have to do with anything?

We're talking about major league baseball and beanballs. 14 year olds aren't out there head hunting each other.

if a 14 year old can die from getting hit in the head, don't you think a guy getting hit in the head from a ball being thrown much faster has an increased chance of serious injury?

btw, Mike Jorgensen would have died as a result of being hit in the head had he not been under the care of doctors when he had a massive seizure. Other died too before helmets were worn.

Tony Conigliaro had his eyesight permanently damaged after getting hit in the face

Chapman was hit in the head by a pitch thrown by Yankees pitcher Carl Mays, and died 12 hours later. He remains the only Major League Baseball player to have died from an injury received during an MLB game.

Again, what does being a PROFESSIONAL have to do with a fastball being able to kill someone?

ETA capitalization.

It makes it more likely to be thrown fast enough to kill someone

He's a fool if he doesn't think an MLB fastball has the potential to kill someone.

Look at it this way. Jose Offerman was charged with assault when he attacked a pitcher on the mound in a baseball game.

Would a pitcher ever be charged with assault for hitting a batter in the head during a baseball game? No because it's not the same thing.

I don't think anyone has said it's the same thing. And that's kind of Machado's point

Yeah you guys are trying to say it is the same thing and pitcher should be charged with assault which is insane.

If done on purpose, they should be charged.

Bingo.

Pitcher gets 4 games for throwing at a batter's head.

Batter gets criminal charges and a huge suspension for trying to cause the same or similar damage to the pitcher.
