I would like to say something. I was a Laker fan before the Hornets moved here. When they did (even during the title LA team contenders in 03 and 04) I rooted for the Hornets over the Lakers every matchup. I remember one game after the Lakers played an OT game in San Antonio during the 04 season I think (they had the 4 future HOF'ers) they came to N.O. and the Hornets absolutely crushed the Lakers. Wesley couldn't miss. I've been to probably 9 Hornet games since they moved here. It just seems for some odd reason during the 05 season I became absolutely obsessed with the Lakers to a point where I would root for them over the Hornets. I don't know why the transformation occurred. I have a few theories into why. After the Kobe incident in Colorado the whole country hated him (rightfully so to a degree), then Shaq demanded to be traded (contract disputes with Buss), then Phil left. I guess during that point somehow I became entrenched with being on Kobe's side and defending him as a person against others. He was very unpopular at the time.
But somehow I started rooting for the Lakers over the Hornets. The same Hornets team I cheered for every night in 02, 03, and 04. I would get on my dads piperack with a radio and use it as an antenna and try to pick up the Hornet games. I remember listening to a Hornet playoff game against the sixers when George Lynch buried a 3 in Philly to force a game 6. How the Hornets blew the lead in game 6 I'll never know. F'K you AI and Baron Davis no defense self. But for a 3 year stretch there I was as diehard of a Hornet fan as you can find. I remember in the 18-64 season my grandmother (may her rest in piece) we watching a Hornet game against the f'ing Spurs in San Antonio. The Hornets were down by 18 at one point in the second half. Darrell Armstong went crazy in the 4th somewhat and hit a 3 at the buzzer. I remember BD dunking the basketball over Ben Wallace at the horn in Detroit during the inaugural season and Paul Silas doing his shimmy on the sideline.
For some reason I started rooting for the Lakers even more though. This was even after the Shaq trade. They really sucked with Rudy T and with Frank Hamblen. I think, honestly the death of my grandmother (she was a big Kobe fan, though she liked the Hornets as well because I would always watch them with her) that somehow I decided I wanted to see Kobe get another ring because he was her favorite player. Keep in mind she lived in New Orleans for 30 years and had season tickets to the Saints just about every season. I actually have a pair of Saints tickets versus the Falcons in '67.
When the Lakers aren't playing I watch the Hornets and root for them non stop. I watch both of them play at times on the internet and TV. I still go to Hornet playoff games, its just a part of me wants to see the Lakers succeed more. It used to not be that way when the Hornets first moved here. When the Hornets first moved here I was thrilled. I even supported a local petition online to get the name changed to the VooDoo and the cheerleaders could be the VooDoo dolls (sounds kinda corny to me now today) but back then I was a mad Hornets fan. I remember when HarveyHornet first signed on with NewOrleansHornets.com (now HornetsReport.com)
I'm not defending my actions just part of me wants to see the Lakers win

i don't care if people from louisiana aren't hornets fans. what does crack me up though are the frontrunner fans. pulling for random teams from every corner of the country just because they win

I was raised primarily in the NOLA area (not born though). I grew up (still am) a Rockets fan and because they were the closest successful team to NOLA. Then they won two titles and I was hooked. I don't so much mind the Hornets it's all of their douchebag, bandwagon jumping fans who make me want to root against the Hornets sometimes. When the Hornets leave, will you respect Hornet fans when they start rooting for other teams again?

Meh. I've been a fan of the garbage they've put out since Hakeem retired too (and you cannot be a Saints fan without rooting for some real bad teams through the years). It'd be hypocritical if I became a frontrunning Hornets fan like half of the Hornets fans.

I doubt Cowboys fans in general give a shite about the Saints. It isn't exactly a rivalry. Their paths never cross because the Saints are rarely in the playoffs.

LOL.
The Cowboys haven't beaten the Saints in the last 6 or 7 tries. You're more right than you know when you say that it "isnt exactly a rivalry".

Whatever the series record is, I wouldn't compare the Saints/Cowboys to Red Sox/Yankees.
But I guess every team needs a main rival (like Hornets fans thinking the Rockets are their main rival).
