Didn’t expect us to make a huge jump to the NCAA tourney or anything but I really like Federico. He got those kids to jump on the ship and play baseball this year and it’s really good to see that. The future is bright in Monroe especially if we can get the fans in NELA to jump on board. Just give him 2 more years and ULM will start to compete in the conference.

They still have a pretty serious lack of talent, but it's much better than it has been. Under the previous coach, they didn't give a frick. These guys didn't quit all weekend. They definitely have something to build on. Maybe 2 years is the turnaround, but they'll need to raise the level of talent quite a bit.

Think Tech needs to win the conference tournament in order to get in? Don’t know if they’ll get an at large bid or not

It all depends on who they play in the tournament. Their RPI is sitting at 55 with a 3-3 record vs RPI top 50, 132nd ranked SOS, 118th ranked non conference SOS, and a second place finish in the 11th ranked conference. To me, that says left out of the tournament.

If they get a chance to beat Southern Miss and/or FAU in the tournament that will help them for sure.

I would say that possibly a trip to the finals will get them in. I'm overall very pessimistic about how the committee treats mid majors from the South. They won't bend over backwards for us.

Exactly. If he got a team that isn’t talented to play hard and never give up then imagine what he could do with a team with some talent and I’m not talking about getting a team with players that will all go pro. I’m realistic enough to understand that ULM will probably never have the roster like ULL or someone at that level but getting some good, tough, and gritty ballplayers is what I would like to see. I think Federico will be able to get those kind of players to Monroe and he will be able to make the conference tourney every year and the NCAA tourney every few years or something like that. At least be able to compete with ULL and South Alabama at the top

Beat them two outta three last week.

FAU

Didn't play them this year, so that's a good win.

Huge turnaround for NSU this year. Took the series from UNO today.

Demons finish 3rd after being picked to finish 11th in preseason. Program definitely heading in the right direction. Really happy we also have a pretty young team.

Yeah, I'm aware. I'm saying that USM and FAU are their best bets at RPI and resume boosts.

LINK

that isn't correct though. The Cajuns are the #2 seed and will play at 7:30 on Wednesday night against the higher seed winner from Tuesday

I'm reading up on the craziness in the Southland right now.

quote:

@Guersmith
Northwestern State has scored four runs in top 9th, effectively eliminating Nicholls from Southland tourney. UNO trails 10-4, will be 8th seed and play league champion Sam Houston State on Wednesday in tourney opener.

quote:

@Guersmith
This is an all-time first. Now Nicholls State is in the Southland Conference tourney despite everyone thinking it was out, including Nicholls State's own people and Corpus Christi's people, due to a change in the tiebreaker bylaws that did not make it into the league's manual.

quote:

Guersmith
We were reading the bylaws in the UNO press box today. But they changed a rule on how to break ties between teams that had not faced each other and Nicholls moved from 9th to 7th. UNO stayed eight.

quote:

@Guersmith
This is not the first time the Southland had a tourney controversy. Two years ago it had the wrong team in its basketball tournament before correcting the mistake later in the day. This time the mistake came in publicizing its own rules.

quote:

@Guersmith
There is no perfect way to decide tiebreakers, but the way the Southland does it I've never seen for any conference ever. Makes no sense. But UNO fortunate the rules change did not cost it. Everyone thought they knew what the rule was, and nobody did.

That is quite insane. Up until I checked the tourney bracket I thought Nicholls was out.

Glad they are in and that at least one Louisiana team has to make the championship game. Really want to see SHSU knocked off.

McNeese is a hot-cold team that has some definite talent. Going to be a tough 1st round game for NSU.

Right. I'm just saying that since they have already taken a series from USM, a win against FAU would be good, because FAU is regarded as a better program than Tech.

Yeah, I'll have to go back and look at RPI of at large bids but I don't remember many teams in the 50s getting in. Is the schedule released yet for the tournament?

Do Cajuns have a shot at an at-large bid or do they need to win tourney?
