To me the difference from last year to this year with ND is that they have better O Line play. They have reloaded at RB after they lost Broussard and Thibodeaux. They can still pass a little to keep people honest too. That is my take although I watched them a lot more last year than I have this year. I think they can beat PBS in Crowley for sure. Now I'm not sure on U High and obviously a betting man bets on JC if ND gets that far.

I completely agree. The offense is better in every facet of the game and the defense is as good or better than last year. I just hope cook doesn't get out coached again by Guillot.

This is a very different team than last year, and this team needs more time to gel than last years team because this year has a ton of new starters, including the whole o-line. By state, things will be different and they will be battle tested. U-High has to worry about the insane secondary and solid LB corps. The Dline is the weak point of Curtis D, but they will be a force enough to penetrate. Guthrie is an animal through the line, and Wallace has been able to get tall and disrupt passing and kicking game. There are other big bodies too, but they aren't fully ready to contribute yet, but they are ready to come in and give the starters some recovery time.

I hope you didn't read anything in my post that underestimates them. I still have vivid memories of my 16 yo son lining up from a guy on their DL he still says looked like a college sophomore. And considering he is a college sophomore, it's a somewhat educated statement.

I think that these kids having to travel to Shreveport to play Calvary and ECA in consecutive weeks last year has them better prepared to deal with the pressure than those teams that got shipped to Curtis early in the playoffs. Our team that had Barrett Bailey at QB actually played them pretty well after we gave up two quick turnovers that led to short field scores, some of which I blame on the Curtis mystique (and them being really good). And the PBS game during the regular season was a lot like a road playoff game for us as well-all the crowd, publicity and pressure of one anyway.

I'm surprised how many expect Parkway to travel to West Monroe and beat them in the semis. A task that no one has been able to accomplish in as long as I can remember. Even with their amazing air attack I can't see it happening.

I don't think they have ever lost in semis at home

I think people think West Monroe is vulnerable because Shows isn't coaching and the colossal choke against Barbe last year.

I don't think that is very wise.

I think JC obviously has a great shot in Division II, but the team that gets through out of ND, U-High, and STM will be a helluva squad.

And choupique, are you really going to say that U-High got all the calls from the refs, AT Parkview, and that is why we won?? I really thought you were better than that.

I said Uhigh was better team... Amazing for one team to have 3 holding penalties on their three biggest plays of the game... when the same thing(technique) was done on the other side on three big plays.... if you think the holding calls were not one sided... I thought you were better than that.... and before you bring up the fumble which the whistle blew - before ball popped out.... take a close look at pick in second half...

PBS lost because they fumbled 6 times and were missing two main cogs on the line more than anything else.

I am always very impressed with your knowledge of HS football in this state. It is a pleasure to read.

That is all

We can play the what if they hadn't fumbled game until the cows come home. What if Copeland rumbles in for seven and Mett doesn't try to catch a snap between his knees without looking? Turnovers are often deciding factors in close games or between closely matched teams.

I have watched a lot of HS football games over the years, and I've yet to see a visiting team getting preferential treatment. Now soccer on the other hand...the center ref has so much control over that entire sport, heaven help you if they don't like your coach, home or away. But that's a story for another day.

And if they were missing a couple key guys, as we were, then maybe we will get a rematch of the full teams. We will have to beat Teurlings again (based on seeding) and PBS will have to travel to Crowley and win to get to come back home. I'm sure it would be a heck of a game again.

How many you see a year where you don't have a kid on team or at said school?

How many have you officiated?

I have STA beating ESJ Friday, but they get Parkway too early. No way they beat them on their first true road trip.

Cath-NI & Calvary are best teams in this division. I think either would dismantle Episcopal

Have you watched Episcopal play this year? They has one of the best lockdown D's in the state and shouldn't have a problem with Riverside. The Wisham Mubungirwa tandem in the backfield is unstoppable in Division III. Not only can they run but Roussel has come to age under center and is a catalyst for this explosive offense. Episcopal should be an exciting team to watch for the playoffs

wow, just wow. That's like saying I'm gonna bitch about biased officiating costing us the game, but don't bring up the most obvious missed call that led to a touchdown for my team. And by the way, the kid ran 3 steps after he fumbled so why did said whistle blow?

Having said that, and I said it right after the game, don't want to have any rematches in playoffs. That includes TC and Parkview because High schoolers aren't mature enough yet to realize the second game is exponentially harder to win.

agree with that 100%...

the list is long and distinguished of teams that won regular season games, some quite handily - only to lose playoff rematches....... I remember one that I worked as a regular season game was 25 points one way... same teams met in semis it was 40-12 the other way.. and 40 to 0 with 11 minutes left...

ask EA about their missing down last week.... and these other schools have all been in this position before episcopal has not.
