They're going to have to re-build through the draft

When was the last time the Lakers actually attempted to build a team through the draft?

It's been a while but they don't have many options. If star players remain repelled by the presence of Kobe through the end of his contract, and the Lakers have nothing left, they won't have many options. Star players will come to L.A. but I don't think they'll come if there's nothing, especially in a world where endorsement opportunities aren't dependent on you being in a certain place (they may be enhanced by being in a certain place, but they're not dependent on that.)

Maybe they can draft well in the next 2 drafts and then lure a star player at the end of Kobe's reign to the Lakers, but that does involve building up the team through the draft.

Lake show was the Kobe Lakers of early 2000s I think.

no, it was the Van Exel/ Ceballos/ EJ/ Vlade teams that went back to the playoffs after the last bit of Showtime fizzled out and they went to the lottery in 94 (drafted Eddie Jones at #10).

I loved those teams, they were kind of a scrappy underdog group. but clearly not championship caliber.

Next question.

The only thing we can say with any type of confidence is them making a run for Kevin love. after that I have no idea what we do. I think it begins with Kobe Bryant retiring.

And had the NBA not nuked the Chris paul deal, they probably aren't in this situation. Had they hired Brian shaw instead of mike brown they probably aren't in this situation. We can go on about the frick ups and what ifs since 2011
