Who wouldve ever predicted that interest in sports would be down during all that is goin on or that having every major sport going on at the same time would lower ratings for each individual sport?
Many of those casuals who have little to no sports in June / July would tune in to the Finals. Sport bars with fewer June options tune into NBA Finals. Comparing October NBA ratings to June is absurb.

Nothing you wrote here is true. Lebron is one of the top merchandise sellers in the world.
He’s up with Ronaldo and Messi in terms of popularity. His star power vastly outshines any other American athlete.

This needs to be the auto response to dumb threads like this.

For the TL;DR crowd: The game is a different style than MJ's final years, people adjusted their lifestyle before the SJWing, and the SJWing isn't helping bring people back into the NBA.
While I am not one of the Why Basketball Man No Stand guys, my care about the NBA had cratered even before the full blown SJWing by Lebron and others in the league. Last time I even watched a game was the 2018 Finals, and that was because it was on at the bar I happened to already be attending. Last time I actually gave a shite and made an effort to watch the NBA was probably the 2008-09 season.
With that said, I absolutely loved seeing Steph Curry just make insane shots during whatever game I was watching during that 2008 Finals.
The game is just different and not appealing to me anymore. That change has even affected the way the college game is being played and now I rarely watch any regular season CBB games, and I am definitely not prioritizing any college or NBA game over other things, to include a semi-intriguing NFL game or a regular season Braves game.
Lebron sucking China's dick, many players deciding to immortalize criminals, and the total embrace of a Marxist organization isn't helping to draw me back in as a viewer either.
I'd also be stupid to say COVID hasn't had an impact on sports viewership though. We've had the NHL playoffs, NBA playoffs, a condensed MLB season, and the start of NFL and CFB all going on right as school was getting back in session. That is a lot going on when parents are adjusting to the first full school year of virtual or hybrid learning.
Factor that in with cord cutting when people were looking for ways to save $ when no one knew what their local government was going to randomly decide what business was essential or not and people adjusted to not having a random sports game on each night.
There're many factors causing the decline in NBA and sports viewership, and the NBA's "progressive" stance on social issues is one of them.

6 million viewers for series clinching game 6, would love to see the spin that Silver tries to sell to the media partners

And they were opposite an ALCS Game 1 and a SNF NFL game with NFL MVP candidate and one of the best WRs in the game.
Only NBA fans were watching last night's NBA Finals game, not the average sports fan.

Same for me. Basketball and the rule changes to make the game more eye appealing/offense is what lost my interest. It's not really "organized" basketball anymore. It's street ball played in arenas now. There was a time when physicality and defense were allowed to bring the truly best to the forefront. Now every team has a star. Do we really think it's because the "stars" are better or is it the rules have made "stars" more prevalent? Stars and offense sell not defense and team basketball. Every sport has fallen victim to money and entertainment over quality of play. It's a generational difference and it's understandable why the debates get so heated. I'm sure guys of the 60s and 70s felt the same about my generation but it wasn't so obvious then.
I don't watch because it's boring not because of the social justice bs. The NBAs issue in the future is who is that Jordan/LeBron for the next generation? Can the model of super teams and every team has a star really be sustainable for ratings when it's been shown that 1 prominent star is what drives interest? It's gonna be interesting to watch play out

Says a lot about the NBA that their prestige product has no drawing power against baseball and regular season football

what was the demo last year? 72% decline from a Canadian team in the finals? I love basketball but this is worrying. You can't spin this decline into a (adam) silver lining.

the overall numbers do not matter dude lol
you're the one spinning. only thing that matters is 18-49 demo. hate to break it to you but you need to go cry about something else
tnt and espn will print big checks for next nba deal. then you clowns will crawl into your caves again. i know exactly how you operate
btw I've predicted this entire szn correct so I would trust what I say here. final warning
