Where did this come from? I thought it was just the car and plane ticket?

Read the article where it speaks of an entry in the tax returns from Schenter listing payments made "possibly" to Joe McKnight. I am not claiming these payments are to JM, just that that is what the NCAA would be interested in.

quote:

In response to a request from The Times, the assessor's office released copies of hundreds of Schenter's work emails, including attachments, that contain rich detail about Schenter's mostly after-hours efforts as an entrepreneur. A September 2010 email Schenter sent from one of his private business accounts to his work address had an attachment titled "Proposed 2008 Adjustments to Income" that names Jefferson and McKnight as people who received payments. A second attachment, "2008 IRS Business Deductions," lists 12 payments totaling $3,730 to "Davon" or "DJ." Jefferson is the only person on the list of payees with those initials. Also listed are 36 payments worth $30,460 to "Joe." It's unclear whether any of those payments were meant for the football player because, according to the email, there are two potential recipients with that first name, McKnight and Joe Galliani, one of Schenter's business associates. Galliani did not respond to multiple requests for comment. There are no emails from Jefferson, McKnight or anyone other than Schenter that would confirm he actually made the payments.

Of course that won't happen, especially considering this is happened in the same period that the NCAA already investigated. They may add some penalties though.

I will fully admit that we do not yet know whether the payment to "Joe" was to McKnight or not, but to just assume the NCAA could never find out is pretty arrogant. When they (maybe the IRS even) look at the other Joe's tax returns, they'd better show a payment from Schenter of $35K or whatever.

i dont care what happens.. but this isnt an NCAA investigation.. there will be depositions and people will be under oath on what happened.. they will find out who the payments were to, believe that.. if nothing comes of it, it will be because the payments were not to McKnight, not because there is current ambiguity..

The auto does, but that was dealt with. But the other stuff says proposed adjustments to income for 2008. SO I suppose it depends on the months when allegedly occurred.

EDT: Looked at proposed adjustment e-mails. Payments to "Joe" (we don't know which Joe) went to December, so no.

My concern is not sanctions, b/c I think USC gets a pass b/c of new administration, but recruiting.

Not only because of the new administration and because they were being monitored at the time by the NCAA and USC was performing their due diligence as best as anyone possibly can but because frankly...

The original sanctions were draconian enough for the alleged crime this would be basically time served because adding this still wouldn't even justify the original sentence.

If USC does not get the death penalty after another major pay for play conviction while they are still on probation for a previous major violation, the penalty simply does not exist.

Hell they are paying recruits right now. Something is wrong when you are right in the middle of some of the worst sanctions in history and you have a record recruiting class.

If true, this is not pay for play. The guy has no affiliation with USC. He is a UW booster. But if true, it is still against the rules probably.
