Brother Martin with team title #20. Great depth as they only had 2 individual champions. Wrestle backs!

Byrd had 2 champs. Loved attending that. There are some avid fans there! Probably wont return but sure will advocate other kids to take it up. Maybe someday our local colleges will catch on.

Title IX killed wrestling in the SEC. LSU finished 8th at the 1984 NCAA Championships and shut down the program in 1985. They had dozens of All-Americans over the years and Coach Shack had the program headed in the right direction. IMO, LSU would have challenged for a NC in 1987 if the program had survived and was still around. Sadly we will never see wrestling as a NCAA men’s sport at LSU. As a former LA HS wrestling champion, that sucks.

Trent, from what I heard, was the reason everybody abandoned that weight class. Proud that my person stayed in it, but he knew Trent would be difficult. Only been wrestling 2 years and went 5-2. Seeded really high, but ankle injury slowed him down a bit. Great day!

Congrats to Donovan Kaufman. Kid goes from Football State championship goat to almost winning state in wrestling...

Rummel football star Donovan Kaufman lost 5-4 in the championship match at 195 pounds to Dylan Olivier of North DeSoto. A Vanderbilt signee, Kaufman lost two points on a takedown that was ruled off the mat. He reached the final despite having wrestled one match in the regular season.

Title 9 - would it help now that females are getting into wrestling?

So what happened to Jesuit? They dropped all the way to tenth

Not what they use to be... Ever since coach Sam left..

Yes sir! Trent Mahoney gave Jerin Meyer his only loss this season (32-1) on a close 4 - 2 decision. Then Trent went back down to 170...glad your person stayed too!

I live in Alexandria and don't think there is a wrestling team within a 100 miles ? Great sport .

This thread makes me miss the days when they had the message boards on Nola.com. The finals were really entertaining and had plenty of dramatic matches in D-1.

Entertaining to say the least. My man lost in overtime with the score tied 1-1. the other guy tackled him while they were both standing three fourth's "out" with one second left. We felt it wasn't a take down cause my guy grabbed him also. There was a debate if there was any time left and if it was a takedown, and since by the time they landed they were both fully out, if it counted. Anyways, they decided it was a take down. Anyways, another sport I wouldn't want to referee.

No he was right before my time. Mark Strickland was my coach. He was a tough SOB and all 3 years i was on varsity, we won state. After he left, it all went downhill slowly but surely.
