Just finished my annual offseason rewatch of Ken Burn's baseball.
Anniversary of Curt Flood's death was this past week and with the lockout going he needs to be commended for what he did..one of the most important people in the history of sports for standing up and sacrificing his career for others.
I bawl when they get to the part when he talks about playing in the south "you would think I just burned the American flag. They called me everything but a child of god" That look in his eyes..I don't know if he ever got over that..

Ty Cobb was a badass and its bullshite what Al Stump did to his legacy. Journalists should be held accountable when they do shite like this.

He’s pretty much the best documentary guy in the world right now
He’s done them on Vietnam, the civil war, Baseball, the Rosevelts’s, etc. If you see something done by him it’s almost certainly really really good

What did Stump do? Is he the reason everyone says Ty Cobb was a piece of shite??

Stump wrote a piece of fiction that became accepted as truth. Cobb was a competitive SOB that you didn’t want to cross, and he had his demons, but he wasn’t psychotic as Stump’s writing portrayed him.

Stump wasn’t a “journalist,” he was a hack writer for pulp detective magazines. Cobb’s mistake was not doing his homework when he hired Stump to ghost write his memoirs.

Cobb story … he was in Nashville visiting his buddy Grantland Rice after the baseball season, they went to watch Vandy practice/scrimmage. Somehow Cobb got talked into running a few plays and the first time he touched the ball he went like 80 yards for a touchdown, and the Vandy players were seriously trying to stop/tackle him because that had to be embarrassing to have someone come off the sideline and smoke you. It probably would’ve been interesting to try to tackle Cobb one on one in the open field.

That's cool. I'm pretty sure someone said he was built like a greyhound

He got heavier as he got older. He was a tough sumbitch at any weight.
There are people who saw him play who said Willie Mays was a better football player than baseball player, and from some of the carnage he left in home-plate collisions, I bet it would’ve been interesting as well for someone to try to tackle him if he had a full head of steam.
