Did all those play at the same time like the Northwestern guys did?

That was my point. All on one team.

HOF Teammates Payton & Brazile were the #4 & #6 overall picks in 1975 draft. Jackie Slater ( hof) was drafted in 1976 & was excited to attend JSU to play with Payton. Yes they were teammates along with Wilbert Montgomery ( transferred), Ricky Young & Eddie Payton.

Ernie Ladd ( should be in Hof) , Buck Buchanan , Willie Brown , Garland Boyette( Ladds younger uncle) , Rosey Taylor. These were just the All pros/ Hofers there were more NFL players from that nasty 1960 team .

Southern University with Mel Blount(Hof), Harold Carmichael ( hof) , Butch Robinson ( 4 x All pro) , Ken Ellis( 2x ALL Pro) All teammates.

Great teams yes. I’m not disputing that.

Also didn’t say the NSU crew was the best. Just said it would be “tough to find” a better collection.

Congrats, you found one. One out of how many? That’s pretty tough.

Also, I wouldn’t call that really the “same level” as NSU, because many of those guys weren’t being recruited by schools that would certainly recruit players of their caliber today.

Most here are to young to know but Gary Reasons from NW La that LB for the Giants was a great player that got little publicity because he played with Lawrence Taylor, Carl Banks, and Harry Carson.

Spot on.

Reasons was smart and a hitter. Yes, easy to overlook him (LT, Banks and Carson were All-World), but not unappreciated by his teammate or by Giants Fans.

At their peak, that group of LBs was arguably the Best Ever.

Can you imagine teams these days daring to run their typical 4th down and 1 or 2 (against these guys or say the '85 Bears?

Thanks. Nice seeing the last three goal-line cracks by the Broncos get stuffed by the G-Men (and Madden in his glory, "THAT IS FOOTBALL").

All those Grambling guys were dominant in the NFL.

Can you imagine the C and G having to move the Chief's Ladd and Buck Buchanan back when typical OL size was 6-3, 250-260?

KC vs Raiders games back then were always a spectacular war.

New Patriots vs Rams SB Final Drive

"I would play for overtime."

2 min later...

"What Tom Brady just did, gives me goosebumps."

Admitted he was wrong. Acknowledged the greatness of what he just saw.

I belive this was also the last Summerall-Madden broadcast.

One ? Besides Grambling I gave you 3 Hofers drafted from Jackson State in back to back Seasons( Walter Payton/ Brazile / Slater) plus Wilbert Montgomery, Ricky Young ( NFL receptions leader) & Eddie Payton

Southern U with 2 Hofers ( Blount/ Carmichael), Butch Robertson ( 6 x pro bowl & 2x ALL pro) & Ken Ellis (2× all pro)

Grambling with 2 hofers ( Buchanan/ Wille Brown) plus all pros like Rosey Taylor, Ernie Ladd & Boyette .

Morgan State & S. Carolina state both have 4 NFL hofers just like Grambling & JSU .I'm sure they had great talent on campus as well

Buck was 6'7 270 & Ladd was 6'9 290 & they were teammates at Grambling!( Reunited in K.C. ) Can you imagine blocking those 2 with another hofer , Willie Brown behind along with all pros Rosey Taylor & Boyette? Plus more NFL players on that team.

That was awesome
Madden “Now that’s how you play football”
JFC…the Giants had Taylor, Reasons, Carson, & Banks all in their prime.
