Cutler said he feels good and really doesn't think about the health problem. "If I need a Gatorade, they get me some Gatorade. Once I hit the field, I am not really thinking about it. I have a monitor that monitors my blood sugar every minute," Cutler said.

Every minute. Are you kidding me? Someone please tell me how this works.

A continuous blood glucose monitor (CGM) determines blood glucose levels on a continuous basis (every few minutes). A typical system consists of:
* a disposable glucose sensor placed just under the skin, which is worn for a few days until replacement
* a link from the sensor to a non-implanted transmitter which communicates to a radio receiver
* an electronic receiver worn like a pager (or insulin pump) that displays blood glucose levels on a practically continuous manner, as well as monitors rising and falling trends in glycemic excursions

How tuned are athletes' bodies? I am doing good to monitor my weight and by that I do not mean controlling it but merely stepping on the scale periodically.

Their body is their job so i would imagine everything is pretty finely tuned

diabetes is a different world dude
especially with athletes in high heat humidity.
hes doing the right thing by checking it every minute.

But Gatorade is full of sugars, isn't it? I am diabetic and watch what I eat. I know bread turns o sugar and I eat too much pizza but...

even though this is the case. if hes in high heat and humidity he can consume more than a typical diabetic.
even if it is sugars the glycemic index of those sugars im sure are just high enough to give him the boost he needs and not the boost and then crash and burn.

I assume he has an insulin pump that monitors his blood sugar so he doesn't have to worry minute to minute.

I am a diabetic and what he means is if he is not on the field they have to check it blood sugar. Alot of activity can either make your BS go up or down. I know it sounds weird but it's true. So he has to know what his glulose level is as ofter as possible to make sure he doesn't bottom out. And if it's high he takes some insulin. I've been doing that for 27 years.
