They are a good team and well coached, but they seem to lose it in the 4th qtr. ???

so the big ten is considered to be weak compared to whom?
Well, you said...

I keep hearing how they will come in and take the Big Ten this year.
So, I guess whoever it is that you keep hearing it from. I think the reason is that there are some unknowns in the Big Ten this year, main one being the state of the Buckeyes who have been running through the conference. Where as, Nebraska is a more of a known commodity.

What happened in the Iowa St game tho? Wasn't that like a 7-6 win against an awful team?
31-30 OT.
And Cody Green started that game, Martinez was out.
If Nebraska had a healthy Martinez last year, and anything resembling a formidable offense the past two years, the Huskers would be back to back Big 12 Champs. Oh, and not to mention, even when Martinez struggled a bit last year, let's remember he was a FRESHMAN.
I'm going to hold back judgement on this team, especially the offense, until I see how they adapt to the new coaches. New offensive coordinator, Tim Beck, who's scheme has been said to be more "simpler" than Watson's was.
New secondary coach Corey Raymond, whom the DB's have said that he has taught them much more technique than they've ever been taught. And that's saying something, considering the talent Nebraska has in the secondary.
New wide recievers coach Rich Fisher. Reciever obviously is not a strength at Nebraska. We'll see if he can do something different with these guys.
New RB coach Ron Brown. Brown's been on the staff forever at different positions, and is now at RB coach.
I've said since the schedule came out last year that Nebraska would lose at least 1-2 games.. at Wisconsin and maybe Ohio State. Maybe a loss to Penn State, Michigan, or Iowa. I don't think the Huskers will have a problem with Michigan State, Minnesota, and Northwestern.

Iowa is a tough son of a bitch. You'll see. And this year they are completely under the radar. Scary team, Marcus Coker is legit, their new QB played lights against OSU two years ago in columbus.

I agree. I'm not expecting Nebraska to blow out any team, besides maybe Minnesota. I believe they will pull out a W in this one, though.

I think they have a good chance of winning the conference, but I wouldn't say they are a lock.

And really, there's no team in the country who is a lock to win their conference this year.
We'll see how it plays out. I'm excited.

worst Texas team in a generation.
bit of an overstatment was 1997 a generation ago?

and then everything fell apart for Nebraska
after they lost to Texas, they won 4 strait, including Ok St and Mizzo, so it would seem it did not fall apart for them, since they went 10-4.

My two biggest concerns with this team are both of the lines.
Coaches have said this is the deepest DL they've had since they've been at NU, but obviously that could just be the usual preseason hype.
O-Line is going to feature a lot of youth, but a lot of talent... I'm guessing..
RT - Tyler Moore, true freshman
RG - Jake Cotton, redshirt freshman
C - Mike Caputo, senior
LG - Andrew Rodriguez, sophomore
LT - Jeremiah Sirles, sophomore
And the youth starting is because the young guys are very good, not because there's no one else. Sirles will start over Hardrick who was really a POS last year. Moore will start over DJ Jones who's a lettered for 3 years. Moore is going to be a 1st round draft pick, BOOK IT.

Couple quotes from Pelini on the new offense this morning...
quote:
"You're going to see a lot more fullback," Pelini said, "than you have over the last few years."
quote:
"You're going to see a combination of spread," he said, "and old school Nebraska football."
quote:
Pelini said players will be less confused and have a better understanding of the offense, which, ideally, will result in better execution.
quote:
Pelini said the sophomore quarterback is "a different guy than he was a year ago" and has a better grasp of Beck's offense.
"Last year, he was so worried about executing our offense, he didn't understand what teams were trying to do to us defensively," Pelini said. "He's going to be able to do a lot more audibling. He has to be able to recognize what teams are trying to do to us defensively."
quote:
"It's not as rigid," Pelini said. "It's an offense where not only can you have the audible going on, but it's also possible for us to go at a tempo where we call things from the sideline."
Nebraska can also change tempos as it sees fit.
"You won't see us in the huddle very much," Pelini said, "but it doesn't mean we're going high speed every time."

I think they have shot at the title, but I don't think they will get it. Like what was said, they have a whole new schedule to deal with. It will be interesting to see overall. Also, I don't think Wisconsin will take the B1G just because of the fact that UNLV was able to get to red zone without much of a problem.
