The teams with byes were underdogs. That’s why they’re 0-3.

They also all three came out of the gate looking like they haven't played in weeks and got into big score holes early.

What is the advantage of the bye, exactly? "Being one game closer" doesn't help you unless you win the game.

I agree but using the underdog logic is pretty dumb.

Because the bye is the reason for the losses and nothing else lol

No, coming out and getting into large first quarter holes is the reason. Mostly, if not entirely, from being sluggish to start and looking like a team that hasn't played in a while.

Well no shite. But you obviously take a “free win” if you had the choice.

You answered your own question lol

It’s one less chance to lose and one less chance for players to get hurt.

Every team that has gotten the bye so far was the worse team because the system is shite.

Oregon deserved a bye but by no means deserved Ohio st in quarters.

Disagree. I want my team to play. Nick Saban agrees with me, so I'm quite comfortable in that opinion.

Why did he always have his byes scheduled before his big games?

Also. There’s absolutely no way if he was still coaching and they gave him the opportunity, he would say, “sure I’ll play one extra game just so I won’t have too much time off”

There’s absolutely 0% chance that happens lol

A one week bye in the middle of the regular season is the exact same thing as sitting at home for a month before the biggest game of the year.

First, advancing a round without playing a game is always preferable. Tennessee, SMU, Indiana, and Clemson would have preferred playing today for sure.

Also, both teams have had abnormally long layoffs. Playing 10+ days ago isn’t some benefit at this point in the season.

So 2 weeks off is the magic number?

That extra two weeks off just magically makes a team not ready?

I can’t comprehend how someone can argue against this just using some hypothetical “well the team may be TOO rested”

That accomplishes nothing beyond filling out slots in a bracket.

Again, disagree. Keeping the team in a game-week posture throughout is preferable to me as opposed to having two or three weeks of dialing it back.

Why?

It illustrates they were believed to be the lesser teams.

Its not about rest. Its about momentum and mindset, and rust from not playing.

Look at the first half of all three of these games. Boise and ASU were competitive in their games after the first quarter or so.

You’re playing the results instead of thinking about it rationally. If you could guarantee you’d win the first week, sure, play in the first round. However, that’s not the way it works.

When dealing with 18-22 year olds, I would say yes. The kicker is that the other team is in their routine from playing.

Its the same reason the Week 0 teams look better in Week 1 every year. When both teams are sitting on their arse for a month in the old system, obviously it doesn't matter. I'd imagine Dan Lanning would tell you right now that he wishes Oregon could have beat the dogshit out of Tennessee or SMU a week and a half ago.

Playing >> not playing.

Not at all. This was my opinion before the season. I don't want the bye. I would rather a home game against an inferior opponent.

Ummmm. It accomplishes having your team play one less possible game to make it to the championship

How can you not understand this lol

You keep assuming you win the first round which is asinine.

I understand. I don't agree that playing less games is preferable in this context.
