Fans call them too.

Exactly, they call the rules office and then the rules official asks them to "review" their strokes on that hole.

Especially in shot put they have some of the most strenous officiating in track and field

But is it subjective like the OP stated?

Billiards

This game along with bowling and golf, darts, etc. I put in the "activities" section and not the "sports" section in my mind. Not saying they aren't incredibly difficult to master, but can't bring myself to call anything that involves some fatass stogy chewer as a participant a "sport."

And Dustin Johnson fricked himself over - its not like that was an interpretation by an official like you see in other sports (ball/strike, charge/block, holding, etc.)

The rules official determined that the ball was at rest in a bunker. Dustin Johnson perceived the ball to Not be in a bunker as it was not a traditional bunker but more of a sandy area in the rough. The rules official notified him of the infraction after he finished. Technically the player calls the penalty on himself but the officials enforce the rules.

does pool have officials?

I've seen an official come out to make a ruling of some sort. I think it was ona double hit. It s rare, but yes.

Ultimate is the true answer for a "real sport." There are no officials at championship level play.
