1) You can't really DEFINE it but I guess an NC is a pretty good start

I like your selection for the best, but don't you think it's more than just wins? frickin' Carroll has wins and a Championship, but would you consider him a "great coach"?

Woody Hayes has to be up there near the top.

uh, yeah considering he took USC from the worst period in its history to possibly its best in just one year. He's a great coach. I don't see how you can deny that.

I think an important thing, that regardless of if OSU goes 8-4 or 12-0 I'm proud of, is that Tressel's players seem to really become better people. I know that this is sentimental bullcrap, but a lot of the time it's more important than what happens on the football field. It doesn't always work, but I think he's a very good teacher of football and life in general.

And regardless of the outcome of that game, I will be a buckeye fan for life, and TP is the real deal

When Woody came to OSU it was called the graveyard of coaches. Anyone that came there was on their way out. He not only brought OSU to glory repeatitivly but he instilled in his students the need to graduate with a degree. He was adamant about keeping their grades up and to this day you will hear stories how players back in the day had such respect for the man that felt a college education was as important as winning a championship game. The man brought football honor to OSU but also pride to the school by making the players perform academically as well as play good football.

I should clarify and say that I do not believe Tressel is the best all time football coach either haha. I just think that makes him a great coach

i certainly appreciate all he's done at usc, but as a die-hard lsu fan, you'll have to admit that its hard for me to think of him as a great coach, especially since we all know of his career at the next level.

i certainly agree with your 'greatest ever' for reasons that could be dissertational.

He was trouble from the get go. Wow one bad kid and his image is tainted forever. Give me a few more examples or you can't actually expect anyone to take you seriously.
