The first African-American captain in Ohio State football history, Leo Brown, has died at the age of 84. In 1957, he was selected as a team captain along with Galen Crisco. The 1957 team also finished first the season's final UPI poll. Brown served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a colonel after he worked as a jaw and face surgeon for more than 20 years.

He is somewhat between the Greatest Generation ... and the Baby Boomers (who were not great).
Definitely an accomplished individual and a trailblazer who seems to have lived a fulfilling life ... even if he was a Buckeye.

He was born a dozen years before the Baby Boom began.

The first African-American captain on a collegiate football team was William H. Lewis for Harvard in 1893.
He was also the first African-American player to be honored as an All-American.
He was also the first African American to be appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney.
He was also the first to be appointed as one of the five United States Assistant Attorneys General.
He was also the football coach for 12 years at Harvard.
He also wrote one of the first books on football tactics and was considered a nationally known expert on the game.
In announcing the All-America selections for Harper's Weekly, Caspar Whitney wrote that "Lewis has proved himself to be not only the best centre in football this year, but the best all-round centre that has ever put on a football jacket."
In 1900 Walter Camp named Lewis to his All-Time All America Team

Yeah ... and he was like 7 or so on Dec 7, 1941.
Pretty sure he didn't see any action in WWII.

Did he die TODAY? For the love of God I just saw in on the sports wire. It's not a competition
