I actually agree with some things he's said in both instances, but that's not the point. I just don't want to hear about that shite when I'm watching football and I don't need Bob Costas to be my moral center.

That said, I wasn't watching when he said either, so I don't really care. I think others could heed my advice and just change the channel as well.

Then a letter from you to Snyder that includes a plea for him to change the name is in order, because it won't end until the name changes.

ETA: I just finished watching. There is nothing smug or objectionable, much less anything less than factual, about what Costas said. Everything he said is 100% correct. The nickname is racially insensitive--that cannot be debated. What can be debated is whether or not it is a big deal at all. I think it is not a big deal, though I personally would change the name if it were my decision.

The fact of the matter is that "Redskins" is no different than "Brave" or "Indian" or "Warrior"
As I've posted before, some Indian (I refuse to use the PC "N.A.") leader-wannabe was on CNN during the Braves-Indians world series and admitted that the outrage over the team names was manufactured, and that the whole thing was just a grab for publicity

You missed the part where I said I don't actually care that much, as I wasn't watching the halftime show and only I can control when/if I do watch it. That's what the butthurt clowns in here need to realize. It's halftime. They don't have to watch. That said, I'm sure if Daniel Snyder had been interviewed and went on a rant about how the name isn't offensive to anyone and he's never changing, then people on here would be crowning him.

If this issue is truly an outrage where are the protests? Where are the thousands (or even hundreds) of native Americans protesters marching on Washington Redskins headquarters? Or is this just an issue with Costas?

In other words, he made a grab for publicity.

Wait, it's only a "publicity grab" when you disagree.

Tell that to the Wellpinit High School, whose nickname is the "Redskins" and whose student body is over 90% native american.
eta: and Red Mesa Az Redskins whose student body is over 99% native american.
The issue isnt as black and white as you and Draconian Sanctions want it to be.

I bet most Native Americans consider it a tribute for teams to be named after them.

When 90% of the Native Americans are NOT offended by the nickname, I'm going to side with the NOT offensive crowd.

White, anglo liberals don't get to tell the Native Americans that they should be offended.

No it can't be debated you fricking racist (change that to "snob" if this gets moved to the music or movie boards). It has been deemed undebatable, therefore it cannot be debated

We better come up with a new word for the state of Oklahoma as well, seeing as how its Choctaw for "red people".

Exactly...There are more Indian schools around the US that have Redskins, Warriors, Chiefs, Indians

Here is a list of the Native American Schools that continue to use Redskins

You know kafka, you're right. I agree that when a holier-than-thou journalist tells an entire group of people how they should feel, it is not debatable.

Frankly, they're too busy getting drunk on the cheap liquor and wampum I traded them for half of Oklahoma and Kansas to give a shite.
