tell that to akili smith, ryan leaf, cade mcnown, joey harrington, among many many others that went through exactly what JR is.
They were drafted to bad teams with bad management.

I agree.

I have not bashed JR other than saying he needs to take care of the mental/film/extra work aspects of playing in NFL.

Look at all of the elite QB's in the NFL what do they have in common? They look at the film, they stay after practice, they do the little things.

With JR every report you read about him says he lacks alot of those traits. When it clicks for him and I hope it will he will be very scary to watch. It took Elway/Favre/Young years of learning before it clicked for them. Unfortunately rookies are not granted that much time now.

Not gonna happen. The Raiders were dead last in the NFL in passing ypg last year. Nobody is gonna give you 3 years of that.

So, like i said in the same post you quoted that one from, can you truly accurately assess a young QB's performance when he has the worst WR Corps in the NFL??

Well to be fair a QB's job is to make his receivers better than what they are. If JR is not able to do that then he wont be able to succeed.

So do you think JR will lose his starting job this fall?

True.

But a 1st year starting QB who is the youngest starting QB in the NFL throwing to the worst WR corps in the NFL and a shitty pass blocking offensive line, that's not exactly setting a young guy up for success.

Maybe but others have made it work, and like I have argued before. Coming into last year you could not have called their receivers shitty.
Lelie, Curry, Walker had all been productive and recently.
The offensive line while not the best in league is also not the worst. Give JR a quicker release and I am sure the sack totals go down. To blame his troubles entirely on the team is being a homer. JR is to blame also here, we are talking about Garcia a guy who had fans in Philly wanting him to replace McNabb.

I'm not sure you can say that. Lelie had 38 catches in 30 games over the previous 2 seasons.

I believe Walker was coming off of another injury and given all his off the field troubles, he wasn't NEARLY the WR he used to be as well. I think he even tried to retire but had to be talked out of it.

I dont think anyone every considered Curry anything more than a #3 WR.

I never did that.

And thats exactly what it boils down too...

If he does what he needs then No he will not lose the starting job

If he doesnt then yes he will lose his starting job.

Garcia is not there to sit the bench, and OAK brought him in to push JR and to take over if they believe JR doesnt give them best chance to win.

Curry was coming off a very good season 50+ catches 700+ yards.
Walker had always been a threat when healthy, he was suppose to be healthy going into the year.
Lelie has always been that untapped potential. Just enough to tease you but never could put it together. But he did have a couple of good seasons in denver

The #1 overall pick always goes to a shitty team. You act like JR deserves to have the best of everything. He's not a bust right now, he gets one more year.

Nah, i never acted like that.

So, using your criteria for a bust, you had Elway as a bust after his 3rd year.

How'd that work out for you.

Not well. How about Akili Smith? Or Leaf? Or Alex Smith? Or Harrington? Or Carr? Or Couch?

All JR has to do is have a better season than last year to not be labeled a bust in my eyes. I don't think he'll do it though.

Garcia should be the starter. He'd provide good leadership for that offense.

But Garcia signed a multi-year deal, I think if Garcia takes over starting duties from JR this year for any reason other than injury they will draft a QB in next years draft to groom.

FYI

The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback joined the Oakland Raiders on Monday, with the 39-year-old passer agreeing to a one-year deal to be JaMarcus Russell's backup.

or MAYBE it's a WR's job to make the QB better than he really is

I don't buy either statement, actually - a QB's job is to distribute the rock and make good decisions. You can't do that without blocking, coaching, and everything else the Raiders lack.

That being said, as a Jets fan I would trade Mark Sanchez for Russell hands down.
Jamarcus throws the rock

The last guy that he evades is Patrick Willis of the 49r's.

He'd fold like a lawn chair in NYC. Could you imagine that debacle?
