Trust me, it's not just the getting KO'd that does that by itself. When you consider how many times a boxer gets hit in the head just during training and sparring to condition themselves to go the distance in fights, I'm surprised many more don't suffer from CTE related problems.

Even with sparring partners using head gear and usually 16 oz. gloves, they can still produce a good pop to the head when they have a clean hit.

Then there's no telling how many times their heads take shots in the ring during a fight---------and that's without headgear and usually 8-10 oz. gloves depending on the weight class they are fighting in.

When most KO's occur, it's usually the punch the fighter didn't even see coming that gets them.

Hatton got into bad trouble when he rushed Mayweather in a corner and Mayweather shoulder rolled and check-hooked him to put him down. When Ricky got up and the fight continued, it was just a few seconds more he was on his way down again and the fight was stopped by the ref.

When he fought Manny, it was a powerful straight left that had Ricky out on his feet before he hit the canvas. He was so out they could have counted him out with a sundial.
