Yea, obviously, it was Wimbledon, and he wanted to keep his streak there alive, so he gave it his all. Maybe that was the difference.
So maybe putting the 20 slam target out there could work, but I'm not sure that can bring the same kind of genuine motivation that he had when he was going after Sampras' slam record.

Deseret won a tight match against Berdych last night. He was actually down 5-3 in the third before rallying to win. He still looks like he's having some problems though. His slice looked like it was floating a little and Berdych was hammering it.
Nadal just went down in straights to Murray, who has a nice little hard court streak going against Rafa now. Fed/Djokovic in a few hours

Well, TTF, looks like we were both on to something. Fed definitely still finds a way to win, but Djokivic gave him all he wanted. Obviously, I forgot to add Murray to the list of the "possibles" that could give Fed heartburn.
Guess we'll have a little of this debate resolved at 2:00 pm today! The smart money, as I see it, is on Fed this afternoon. If I was paying attention to the commentary, Fed is back to #2, win or lose the final, right?

As most know (TTF in particular) I put Fed getting to 20 at 0.000001% chance of happening. I just think with his family now, Rafa's emergence, and Fed's age that it could be very difficult (this doesn't even factor in the possibility of Berdych/Soderling continuing to become more consistent). Obviously there's a chance Rafa gets hurt and Berdych/Soderling don't progress and Fed pulls his best Agassi campaign, but I don't see it.
This US Open is paramount to any run he makes. He looked pretty good coming off the break but Berdych shoulda beat him had he not choked and when Djok wasn't dumping every single backhand into the net he was able to push Fed. It's crazy to say but I think Murray might be the favorite for the US Open, we'll know more after today.
For anyone who wants to learn more about the Rafa/Fed rivalry, the book Strokes of Genius is epic. I got it yesterday and will probably finish it today. It goes in-depth into each players upbring, their pregame routines, what they did during raindelays; it's really been incredible and very candid writing.
Also for Fed fans, obviously I haven't gotten to when Rafa wins but right now it hasn't been pro/negative for either player. It basically compares their contrasting styles and attitudes and it's been very objective of both, saying it's essentially a subjective apples/oranges choice.
It's easily one of the better sports reads I've picked up.

Thanks for the book recommendation. I'll have to check it out.
Federer is getting his arse kicked right now. He's spraying UFEs all over the place and just got broken for the second time in a row. Murray is up 3-0 in the first and serving.

Is my TV on delay? I'm at 2-0 Fed serving 15-30

ESPN isn't really showing it live. I live near Canada so I've been watching it on a Canadian channel. There's a rain delay now though so ESPN might catch up.
eta: I won't post any spoilers

Well shite, Fed just wrapped up serving to make it 5-4 Murray.

Wow Murray sure is "unfortunate" looking as a person. I think that's the best way to describe his face.

Fed came out of the raindelay storming, thought he was gonna push it to 3, but Murray battled back. If he continues to play like this then he's the favorite going into the US Open.

Yeah, I was surprised at how well Fed played after the rain break. I watched his matches against Berdych, Novak, and Murray. I think his movement is clearly the best it's been since the AO, but he still looked iffy. His forehand was spotty and he was hitting a lot of UFEs. I honestly think he was lucky to win the previous two matches.
Murray is clear playing the best tennis right now. I only saw Rafa play one match, so no real thoughts on him. I expected him to lose to Murray after his long layoff and don't really think it means much heading into the USO

Don't look now, but the predictions that Fed's better days may - and I stress MAY - have passed him by.
There was a day that Rafa was the only name in the conversation about who could challenge Fed. in a big match. Now, although an exclusive short list, the aggregate of contenders is certainly more than you can count on one hand. Personally, I'd love to see Fed add at least one or two more GS titles to his already unbelievable resume, but I just can't hold my breath, know what I mean?

Yea his movement was definitely encouraging. He was getting to all kinds of balls and really making Andy hit multiple winners to get the point (which he was doing).

Rafa was kinda the same as Fed. You saw the movement which was encouraging but he didn't seem to have his timing down (obviously expected after his extended break).
The draw for this tournament will be more important than any tournament in a long time. It's about time Murray started playing some aggressive tennis. No top player has played like more of a pvssy in the past two years than Andy Murray.
