Fat Daniel Vogelbach has a blow-out rounding 3rd, inept D-Backs allow him to score anyway

Apparently the D-Backs thought Vogelbach was the "Make a Wish" kid for tonight's game...

But for real though, wasn't he kinda out of the baseline?

Base paths don’t matter unless there’s a tag play trying to be made

Just a guess, but I'm thinking the defense (the guys with the ball) didn't notice fat boy because he was so far out of the baseline.

The pitcher and catcher sure noticed him though . They were screaming their asses off trying to get a throw home.

I'm kinda sad that they didn't throw home, actually. I think we were robbed of potentially seeing the GOAT play at the plate...

That's kinda what I thought, since there is no real advantage for a runner to leave the baseline and take the long way to the next base.

But in this one weird example, I think Vogelfat actually gained a slight advantage by being so far from the play.

This is actually an interesting scenario interpretation, because in that case you could argue he gained an advantage by leaving the base path in this instance

Eta: I see we arrived at same conclusion

That’s on blue. He’s out of the base bath and limping to the dugout.

Infielder didn’t see a runner because he wasn’t there.

I think that definitely confused the guys who had the ball. In that situation you expect to look up and see one of two things: a guy standing near 3rd base because he is holding up on the play or a guy streaking toward home plate trying to score. In this case, neither was happening and I think the infielders had their mind blown by the situation.

I’m kinda glad they didn’t throw home.

Dude was scoring easily without the injury.

There are consequences for being fat. No mercy should have hosed him.
