He can't. Any title awarded by the AP or the UPI is as legit as it gets.

Notre Dame was the first "Boise State" program of cfb. They were the little guys from the Midwest taking on the big boys of the East Coast.
1924 was their break through. ND was not ND before 1924.
Alabama was similar. Vanderbilt was probably the first great southern team, but consistently lost to the Eastern powers. Georgia Tech's 1917 team led by coach Heisman was the first team to beat an Eastern power. But Alabama was the first southern team to beat non-southern teams consistently. That said, when Alabama goes unbeaten back then, it isn't the same as today. Southern football was pretty weak until the 1930s.

Not when you lose head to head to the other team claiming. Get real.

LSU claims none of these and rightfully so. In 1908 we played nobody and we were nobody. In 1935 and 36 we lost to Santa Clara in the bowl. 1962 is laughable.
We shouldn't claim those and don't claim those. The fact that Bama claims similar NCs should not influence us.

Only 1908 is recognized on the NCAA site and the CFDW.
We went over this yesterday, I believe. The NCAA does not recognize any national championships in DIA/FBS college football. Period.

At home. By two scores.

1978 was a travesty. USC beat Bama. Alabama can point to the AP trophy, sure, but they'll have a tough time convincing anyone they were the best team that year.

Where is it written in the bylaws that you can't claim it? Please...point them out to me.

I know and I agree.

My point was not that we should claim them, it was that Bama shouldn't claim the BS ones they have.

indeed, which is why it is wildly amusing how wiki loves boise but despises ND.
although he is a pleb in the knowledge of cfb so i do not expect much

Beating the #1 and only undefeated team in the country in the Sugar Bowl was convincing enough for most people in the Associated Press. USC barely won the Coaches Poll in '78 while Alabama ran away with the AP.

Right under where it's written that you don't poison a rival team's trees. Y'all must have missed that page.

LSU should claim 1908 actually.

Here's the thing: Yes, Alabama lost head-to-head to USC in 1978. But USC was a Top 10 team Alabama lost to. USC lost to an unranked Arizona team late in the year and would have lost the Rose Bowl that season had official reviews been around back then.

Another word about 1908:
We were a "point-a-minute" team with a high powered offense led by Pennsylvania native Doc Fenton. He was the reason we were any good at all.
We were a lot like Fielding Yost's early Michigan teams. We had a good scheme and a few good players and ran up the score on weak teams. Noteably, Michigan's early point-a-minute teams got absolutely crushed by any Ivy League or eastern power they faced. It would have been the same with LSU. Penn had a whole team full of Doc Fentons. That is why they were considered the best team in 1908. LSU was awarded the "NC" by the National Championship Foundation, which has been laughably off the mark on more than one occasion.

I wasn't aware every Alabama fan was a part of that.

You have no idea what you are talking about, bro. The NCF is a joke. We don't claim 1908 because nobody back then thought we were champs of anything.
Alabama doesn't seem to have this inhibition.
