For the 30 for 30's I think these would be some great stories:

Hagler/Leonard: as discussed before
Powell/Lewis: How the man with the greatest series of jumps in one meet didnt win the long jump but lost the meet. The winner still was an also ran to many.

BALCO: How Conte influenced sports
George Mason's run to final 4.
