The Dolphins would have had to create 50 mil of cap space to do that. And then find a team who would meet his contract demands and give up a premium pick.

This makes zero sense, he's a badass, he's great no matter who the opponent is ,he just performs. And the team doesn't make it known they intend do extend him BUTTTT
Tua, who can beat .500 teams and can't beat the better teams, the top defenses, doesn't go to the tablet when off the field like all other qb's do and one more concussion should do him in in reality, they have no problem letting the world know they want to extend. I love my Phins but damn this makes no sense at all.

best they're going to get from comp picks is a 3rd round pick, but they could have done like Chiefs are doing w/ Sneed and tagged & traded him

Franchise tag is a 1 year fully GTD deal that you can’t negotiate or change the structure. You need actual cap space open to hold onto a player for a tag and trade

Tag and trades are also pretty rare outside of madden franchise mode and really hard to pull off, in part for the same reason as that contract is a hard pill to swallow and you can’t rip it up even with an extension.

I wouldn’t hold your breathe on the chiefs tag and trading sneed either despite those reports. Could happen but history says it probably won’t.
