The second Final Four was a team that got hot and had a favorable draw in the S16 and E8, granted that was after they knocked out 1-seed Stanford. I’m not knocking Bill, but he was a placeholder.

That’s an insult to Guthridge. The dude parlayed an NIT season at Notre Dame into the UNC gig. He had immediate success with someone else’s players, and then won 8 games the next year. They lost to Hampton, Davidson, and Charleston, and were flat out abused in ACC play. I guess his saving grace is that he got May, McCants, and Felton to campus.
