Hingis did beat Serena 6 times in 13 matches btw.
Serena won the last three and bageled her in the last set they ever played (in 2002). 2002 is when Serena started kickng arse. So, basically, Hingis has a respectable 6-7 H2H record against Serena because she quit when she was 20.
I'm still mad at Martina Hingis for beating the love of my life in her only trip to a GS semifinal.

Hingis won five major singles championships in just over two years, and then, after that ’99 Aussie Open, the big titles stopped. Like John McEnroe before her, she got caught in an undertow during a sea change in the sport. Led by equipment advances and the rise of tennis academies, tennis suddenly swung toward big girls who mashed the ball every single time. Hingis was a better all-around player than Mauresmo and Lindsay Davenport and the Williams sisters, but, at 5’7” and a soft 130 pounds, she just couldn’t handle their power.
That is fricking nonsense on every conceivable level.
Racquet technology has been essentially the same since like 1988. Who the frick wrote that passage? A team of Apes working in shifts?
Like John McEnroe? McEnroe turned pro in 1979 and actually did play with a wooden racquet. Seriously, who wrote that?
Martina Hingis quit tennis because she wanted to do blow and bang dudes. The author of that piece got caught in an undertow of stupidity.
I seriously wish I hadn't read that paragraph. I'm now stupider as a result. Like appreciably so.

I couldn't just let that slide. I mean, it's completely false in all respects. Hingis was a great and savvy player, but in no way was she some kind of victim of racquet technology advancements. That's just silly. It's like the fricking author forget what decade he was talking about, and he turned out to be two decades off instead of just one.
Pete Sampras was using the same fricking racquet when his won his first USO in 1990:
The he used when he won his last in 2002:
There was no leap in racquet in technology in 1998. There was a leap in Martina Hingis' desire to do blow and get banged. Simple as that.
ETA: completely unrelated, but goddamn Pete Sampras was an absolute force athletically. I think about Pistol Pete and his serve comes to mind, but dear lord he was fast as a cat. Sampras 1990 USO

Between her and her sister, then yes!

I cast my vote with Bobbyray.
He knows what kind of rackets each uses and the pros and cons of them?
Lets just say that WAYYYY more than i would ever want to know about tennis.

Pretty sure Serena would be the one doing the fricking.

Did you think about this before you wrote it?
Absolutely.
(1) Hadn't played tennis in over six motnhs. Knee injuries happen.
True and as such, she was not the best during that stretch---and during many stretches over the last 10 years. But I do acknowledge she was the best during some periods since 2002.
(2) Then who was better than her at the game of tennis? Amelia Mauresmo? Maria Sharapova? Come on, think McFly
When she was injured? When she was depressed? When she was not interested in tennis? The answer is someone else. When she was at the top of her game---probably no one, but I will throw out Venus.
3)It's quite undisputed. How about this: assume that all players on the WTA remained perfectly injury free between 2002 and today. Further assume that in each of those years an alien spaceship lands to destroy earth, but then decides to spare the planet based on the outcome of a tennis match. You are the leader of the planet, and so you get to pick which female player goes up against the alien player.
And now either (a) acknowledge that you selected Serena Williams each and every year or (b) that you don't care about the fate of the planet or the innocent children residing thereon. Indisputably the best female tennis player on the planet. Twelve years running. Who else has pulled that off?
You are assuming Serena is injury-free but she was not. As to your question of who would i pick over the last 12 years if she were injury-free and playing at the top of her game, I would tell you that it is a tough choice between serena and venus, although probably serena.
Absolutely.

Like someone else said, stick an old racquet in a new players hands and see what happens. it's a big difference.
when i first starting playing in 89', i used my dad's T2000 for a short time. My god it was a big difference between the graphite ones.
so there is an advantage. And for that era you're playing in, the type of racquet may have dictated how you would have prepared to play. with the power game now, you hardly ever see any net players.
Question for you Bobbyray, did you ever add lead tape to your racquets? if so, how did it relate to increased power, momentum, spin, reduced strain on the shoulder, ....? i'll be back later...

I'll assume this is your way of saying that Serena likes it on top. Otherwise, that's gross.

It's not personal by any means, but, sure, I'd bang her for the story.

where did you get this pile of garbage?
hingis fell victim to racket technology in 1999?
wow. the person writing that must have been high.
ive still got my 6 rackets from 1999-2000 and they arent much different from the rackets of today. nothing like what this guy is saying

Martina N. and Steffi Graf would be ahead of her.
