There's really only one way they get in. They happen to be the money game against a Top 5 power 5 on the road early in the year and win.
The losing power 5 then only at worst loses a second game in their conference championship.
That's about it. If anything weakens their big win the bias will keep them out.

Houston, the year they beat OU, had a good shot. But they went on to lose more games

Ya, no margin for error. What makes it worse is how they have to depend on the teams they beat not sucking too.
Compare to Alabama this year. All their conference opponents suck but no one holds that against them.

I am sure if cincinnati wins they will claim a national title. No one will believe it but at least their school will feel good about hanging a banner.
