There's a Tony and a Tommy? A college friend grew up on their street in Phoenixville, maybe? Tony was her first crush lol.

Piazza was born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, grew up in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, and attended Phoenixville Area High School. He is of Italian and Slovak ancestry, and is the second-oldest son of Vince and Veronica, with brothers Vince Jr., Dan, Tony, and Tom. Tom's godfather is former MLB manager Tommy Lasorda. Mike grew up a Philadelphia Phillies fan, and admiring Hall of Fame Third baseman Mike Schmidt.[4][5]
I worked with someone who married Vince.
Phoenixville, PA is awesome.

Tommy bringing the gold to the US when the US was stinking it up in the Olympics can't be ignored.
And IMO, him sending Kirk Gibrson to the plate is the ballsiest move in sports history.
Gibson got two quick strikes and could barely walk to the plate.
Imagine if he strikes out, how Lasorda would've been called a buffoon. Dude managed from his gut, was Pro-American to the core and knew the power of belief.
If he dies, I hope he meets that great Dodger in the sky as he always talked about.
What an American.

One could argue that the greatest American Summer Olympic underdog team and individual gold medal victories occurred on September 27, 2000 in Sydney, Australia, when the USA Baseball Olympic Team, managed by Hall of Famer and two-time Dodgers World Series Champion Tommy Lasorda, shocked the mighty Cuban team, 4-0.
Lasorda’s locker room strategy from the start was to instill the belief in his team that they were going to win gold, even if he had never actually seen them play He told the team, his coaches, the media and everyone in Sydney that Team USA was going to beat Cuba.
