Prime Pedro

He actually injured himself after five scoreless innings in game one. He was injured during Game 5 and is why he didn't start that game.

If it was Game 7 of the WS and you got 100% peak from both pitchers for that game, who would you give the ball to? My answer is easily Pedro.

Dont dismiss Maddux so easily. His career World Series ERA/WHIP is 2.07/0.90

Besides, Pedro at his best would only give you 6 or 7 innings at the most. The only time that I can remember Pedro pitching past the 7th inning was the Grady Little game and we saw how that turned out.

To see what Maddux could do at his best, just look at what he did against Cleveland in game 1 of the 95 World Series. A complete game 2 hitter, and didnt give up a single earned runs. That was a Cleveland team loaded on offense, (Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, Eddie Murray, Paul Sorrento, Carlos Baerga, & Kenny Lofton). That season Cleveland lead the majors in batting average, hits, runs, home runs, OBP, SLG%, & OPS. And Maddux shut them down

He was way past his prime at that point. Still very good, just not dominant like he was. Maddux had a better career, but nobody at his prime dominated like Pedro did. Also he had numerous complete games in his prime. Probably led the league a couple of times.

Not in the postseason. Not a single one. He only pitched into the 8th inning once, and that was that 03 game

He was 31 years old and finished 3rd in the CY Young voting that year. He was in his prime

Outside of 99, Boston never made the postseason in Pedro's prime. And even in that postseason he injured his shoulder and had to be taken out of the game in Game 1 of the ALDS only to reappear in relief of Game 5 in which he threw six hitless innings.

Maddux made the postseason about every year in his elongated prime years. Pedro's prime was from about 97 to 2003, but his very best when he was nearly unhittable was from 99-01. By the time 03 rolled around, he was still very good, but far from his best. In 99 he regularly hit 97, in 03 it was 91 at best. Huge Difference.
