I think I'm the only one who thinks 2.9 mill is way to much for a guy to be our DH who hit .197 last year w/ 98 hits in 160 games. Also a career .230 hitter and last 4 years were awful.
You don't even have to reach the Mendoza Line these days and they throw 3 mill at you.
And I can care less if he's a good clubhouse guy. That's garbage. I'd rather have a .300 hitter who never spoke to teammates.
Justin Morneau is getting paid 14 million this year, and he and Carlos Pena have a nearly identical career OBP.

Sorry to tell you, but Brett Wallace is gonna have to play anyway,
Don't be sorry I couldn't care less about the Astros. Was interested because I saw Carlos Pena's name. I am a huge Cubs fan and like him a lot after his time in Chicago.
Not sure why you think Wallace will play. Pena will play over Wallace until the Astros are so far out of it that the release/trade everyone and let people that no one has ever heard of play.

That's a great deal for a guy who will be your best power hitter
No way he puts up better power numbers than
Lowrie.
Hell... I bet wee-man ends up putting up just as good of numbers hitting in the 1 or 2 hole.

Won't one play DH and the other play 1B?
Or did they sign someone else, too?

Plenty of pitchers with sub .500 records and 5.00+ ERAs that are making significantly more than this.

This is why you don't have a clue and aren't running an MLB team.

Stupid.

Good call forgot about the DH being in the AL now.
Well Pena should play 1B then since he is a gold glove calibar first baseman and Wallace is not.

They are awaiting the return of the Puma.

According to mlbtraderumors, the Pena signing means that Berkman probably wont be an Astro.

Your right, because I wouldn't pay a guy 3M to be my DH who can't hit .200, K's 160 times, and can't drive in runs.
And I get it he walks a lot.

He's gonna be playing alot of 3B. He split time there for alot of last season.

It's not shocking. It would have been nice to see him come back, but Lunhow was probably only going to offer him 5M a year and that's well below his market value. Keeping in mind that he's somewhat over the hill and banged up, I'd put his value at around 8M a year and that's too far out of our price range.
Yeah, our payroll will probably be that of your local Mcdonalds franchise, but it's all about staying the course until many of our top prospects are producing in the MLB. When that happens, I think Crane and Lunhow will open up the checkbook a bit more.
I know it's been said many times, but what good does signing a Hamilton or Upton do for us if it means we only lose 70-80 games instead of 90-100?
