Chili Davis has been hired as the new hitting coach replacing John Mallee. Andy Haines has been named his assistant replacing Eric Hinkse who took a job as the LAA's hitting coach. Haines was a minor league hitting coordinator for the Cubs.

Brian Butterfield hired as the new 3rd base coach.

Both are highly regarded.

Rumor is Davey Martinez leader for the Nationals managerial vacancy. John Farrell's name has been thrown around for possibly bench coach or even pitching coach. I know Jim Hickey has been labeled the front runner for pitching coach

Maddon saying C.Davis should be better for situational hitting

Chili Davis. I like it. What about pitching coach? Still going after Jim Hickey?

I wish they kept Bosio.

I'm liking this version of the house cleaning instead of trading away the position players. Still would've probably kept Bosio though.

Get some better relievers, a couple of cheaper but consistent back end starters, then we may have something.

This after he said last week that he hoped to retain the entire coaching staff. I know it's all coach speak, but this was unexpected.

I think Bosio did good work and was surprised they didnt pick up his option for next year.

Rank these guys in order of who you'd be most willing to trade for pitching.

Javy Baez
Addison Russell
Kyle Schwarber
Ian Happ

I initially thought Bosio should have stayed, but I guess somebody had to take the fall for the bullpen.

They could have just pissed in Theo’s coffee though, instead of cutting Bosio loose

Assuming you get the same pitching for each one:

Schwarber
Happ
Baez
Russell

seconded. I don't want to trade Baez or Russell at all.

There's already talks that Maddon might want to move Baez to SS full time and Russell to 2B.

Where did you see that? I read a lot of Cubs stuff and haven't come across that one yet. Wouldn't bother me at all honestly.

And what is your order of preference for tradeable players?

I wouldn't hate that. Baez has shown he's incredible defensively wherever he plays and has a cannon and Russell can easily handle 2B's range but has the weaker arm of the two.

Biggest thing each would have to learn is turning a double play from the opposite position.

Mike Maddux to STL could open up Hickey to Cubs.

just some rumblings throughout the year when Baez sub in at SS. Russell wasnt quite as good this year and i know Maddon has fielded questions on it. Said it wouldnt happen but also kind of sounded like coach speak.

Russell
Happ
Schwarber
Baez

would be my rank. Just never really loved Russell. I know he is young but I think he might fetch the most in a trade.

Not a fan of Maddux going to STL. Hickey has to be the guy Maddon gets.
