Would the Cubs have been better off if Mark Cuban would have been allowed to buy the team instead of Ricketts? I say so, Mark is an animal and wouldn't have stood for the losing that is sure to come out of Chicago.

Yeah, the Cubs would be racking up titles like the Mavericks.

Just because you give the players video games, that doesn't make you a great owner.

not saying he would bring a title by any means...but kinda nuts if you don't think cuban isn't a great owner..passionate...turned a terrible franchise around..hell saved the mavs. yeah he may get too emotional sometimes...but not many better owners out there

He has done as much as the owners of the Pacers, Jazz, Nets, Cavaliers, and Magic. They all went to the finals recently also. This is a perfect example of people buying into the hype.

The Cubs are a money machine. There is no "saving" them. Cuban would not have bought any more talent than what they have had the last few years, including this one.

I dont care about the finals. It's not about buying into hype...the Mavs were GARBAGE before he got to them. They haven't been Garbage since. Yeah he's spent alot of money...but so haev the Knicks....just because you make some bad trades/signings doesn't make you a terrible owner.

He totally turned that franchise around

quote:

In the 20 years before Cuban bought the team, the Mavs had a winning percentage of 40%, and playoff record of 21–32.[44][45] In the six years following, the team won 69% of their regular season games and reached the playoffs in each of those seasons. The Mavs playoff record with Cuban is 39 wins and 40 losses, including their first trip to the NBA Finals in 2006, where they lost to the Miami Heat.[46]

Also....one of the coolest things that i've never known an owner to do..when the Mavs and Jazz were going into an elmination game in Utah..Cuban gave the first 100 fans that came up from Dallas to the game free tickets and they all sat together....even as a Jazz fan I thought that was bad arse.

I see your point. I think the difference is that the Cubbies are not garbage from a business standpoint. I'm not anti-Cuban.

I'm very concerned about this new ownership with the Cubs. Ricketts definitely overpaid for this franchise, so if he is tight with his money at all, I have a feeling the Cubs are going to be cutting some payroll in the future. Wrigley Field is severly limited in its ability to raise more revenue than it already brings in because of its landmark status.

2006 NBA Champs, 9*50 (soon to be 10*50)... championship contenders in 03 and 05-07... Not Cuban's fault Dirk got hurt in '03, that the '06 Finals were the most biased and worst officiated NBA series in history, and that the Warriors lucked into the 8th seed and hit lucky shots in '07.

There's a difference between being a poor owner and an unlucky one.

Furthermore, Cuban isn't even the GM. The Gasol trade was due to Mitch Kupchak, not to Jerry Buss... Cuban has shown he is passionate and willing to spend $, a fine owner indeed. 2006 NBA Champion, too.

At least we don't claim a title we didn't truly win right?

Cuban would have given Boston, New York Clubs, and others a run for their money in payroll department.

Cubs would be a player in every major free agent.
