This thread is to show multiple brackets if there were different scenarios available and will list some as discussed on site before

Current CFP Model
1 LSU vs 4 UGA
2 Ohio St vs 3 Clemson

P5 champions +1
4. UGA (at large) vs 5. Oregon, winner plays 1 LSU
3 Clemson vs 6 Baylor, winner plays Ohio St

P5 Champions, Top G5, +2
8 Cincinnati (G5) vs 1 LSU
5 Alabama (at large) vs 4 UGA (at large)
7. Baylor vs 2 Ohio St
6 Oregon vs 3 Clemson

ByLaws 20% of membership 24 teams Straight S
16 Notre Dame vs 17 Cincinnati, winner plays 1 LSU
9 Penn St vs 24 Miami, OH, winner plays 8 Minnesota
13 Baylor vs 20 Iowa, winner plays 4 Georgia
12 Auburn vs 21 Boise, winner plays 5 Alabama
15 Michigan vs 18 Memphis, winner plays 2 Ohio St
10 Oklahoma vs 23 Louisiana Tech, winner plays 7 Utah
14 Wisconsin vs 19 Texas, winner plays 3 Clemson
11 Florida vs 22 Appalachian St, winner plays 6 Oregon

To fix the required no rematch clause you would move Oklahoma to 9 Penn St to 10, Auburn to 14 with Wisconsin at 12, and Notre Dame to 15 and Michigan to 16

G5 Bracket
Boise vs Miami Oh winner plays Cincinnati
Appalachian St vs La Tech, winner plays Memphis

I'm gonna go ahead and shill mine since this thread might be a good place for it. I use some guaranteed tie-ins that need to be accounted for, so assume that the highest-ranked team from each conference is its champion. I also have a system for the four marquee bowls, but it uses benchmarks that don't make sense this early in the season (e.g. being a 10-win team), so I'm not going to post what they would look like right now.

The six teams in the playoff:

#1 LSU (9-0) [Rule 1a--Power 5 Champ with 1- losses]
#2 Ohio State (9-0) [Rule 1a]
#3 Clemson (10-0) [Rule 1a]
#4 Georgia (8-1) [Rule 1c--Highest-ranked team available]
#5 Oregon (8-1) [Rule 1a]
#6 Oklahoma (8-1) [Rule 1a]

===

And for you nerds that actually want to read the system, the rules follow. I applied them to each year going back to 2006 and thought that they passed the BS test.

===

Playoff Rules:

(1) Six teams are selected to play in the playoff.
(a) Any Power 5 Conference Champion with one or fewer losses receives a bid.
(b) The highest-rated Group of 5 Conference Champion or Independent team with zero losses receives a bid.
(c) The remaining teams are selected from the CFP Rankings.

(2) The first- and second-seeded teams have a BYE in the first round of the playoffs.

(3) The third- and fourth-seeded teams will host their first round game.

(4) The semifinal and championship games will be played at a neutral site.

(5) The Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, and Orange Bowl select eight teams.
(a) Each bowl has at least one automatic bid to a conference champion.
(i) If a conference champion is unavailable (for instance, due to selection for the playoff), that conference's bid must go to the next-highest ranked team available from that conference, if that team has at least 10 wins. If no such team is available, the bowl may select any team as an at-large bid.
(b) The Rose Bowl will select the Pac-12 and Big Ten Champions.
(c) The Sugar Bowl will select the SEC Champion and one at-large team.
(d) The Fiesta Bowl will select the Big XII Champion and one at-large team.
(e) The Orange Bowl will select the ACC Champion and one at-large team.

(6) If a Group of 5 Champion or Independent team finishes the season with zero losses and is not selected for the playoff, then that team must receive an at-large bid to the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, or Orange Bowls.

(7) In Power 5 Conferences with multiple divisions, any division winner which competes in the conference's championship game, finishes the season with at least 10 wins, and has not otherwise received a bid to the playoffs or the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, or Orange Bowls must receive an at-large bid to the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, or Orange Bowls.

(8) No two teams from the same conference may be selected to play in the same bowl game among the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta, or Orange Bowls.

(9) If any combination of rules above would create more mandatory bids than slots available, resolve any discrepancies as follows.
(a) If a bid passes to a team which did not win its division under Rule 5(a)(i), and if that team belongs to a conference whose divisional champion also receives a bid under Rule 7, the Rule 7 bid takes priority over the Rule 5(a)(i) bid.

I like this format. Extend it one week with 1 and 2 getting a bye

To put into bracket form the rearranged seeds due to no conference rematches until after round of 16 to complete a true Bylaws tournament

17 Cincinnati vs 16 Michigan, winner plays 1 LSU
24 Miami, OH vs 9 Oklahoma, winner plays 8 Minnesota
20 Iowa vs 13 Baylor, winner plays 4 Georgia
21 Boise St vs 12 Wisconsin, winner plays 5 Alabama

18 Memphis vs 15 Notre Dame, winner plays 2 Ohio St
23 Louisiana Tech vs 10 Penn St, winner plays 7 Utah
19 Texas vs 14 Auburn, winner plays 3 Clemson
22 Appalachian St vs 11 Florida, winner plays 6 Oregon

I only see one true mismatch in first round OU vs Miami. Iowa vs Baylor could get pretty ugly. But there are all games that people would want to watch.

For those that say somebody "should not be NC with x losses" Lets take Texas as example

Round 1 they play Auburn, then in round 2 they would play Clemson, then they would play Oregon/Florida winner, and the semi is most likely tOSU. Then they would play winner of top bracket which has the 3 power SEC teams.

They run that gauntlet there is no way somebody could argue they aren't best team.

For those that say well regular season or whatever wont mean as much. This style works in every level of football, but the elitist FBS and you wont rest or sit guys in risk of seeding. Plus you truly get the best team winning the national championship.

I'm down with either of these and it would lead to GREAT non conference scheduling. Lose to tough non conference opp? No problem, you can still win your conference. Don't win your conference? Better have a damn strong SOS. That's how it should be IMO.

This will never happen, but an alternative that would be fun to me and preserve some tradition/history. Do this for round of 8.

Let the committee seed the at large teams with a rule avoiding rematches if possible.

Rose - BIG champ vs. PAC champ (NYD at 4)
Sugar - SEC champ vs. at large (NYD at 8)
Orange - ACC champ vs. at large (NYE night)
Cotton - Big 12 champ vs. at large (NYD at noon)

Seed the winners 1-4 and have semi finals on campus. A trip to the title game on the line in Baton Rouge, Columbus, South Bend (jk ), etc. would be some of the coolest events ever. Plus, the bowls and conferences still get their money.

Would the opinion of a graduate of two time national champion Penn State hold any merit ?
