It's relative, just shows how much confidence you have in the bet. For example, if I say I bet $50 on a game, you won't be able to tell if that's a lot or no; but if I say 1 unit then you will probably draw the conclusion that I'm not really confident in the pick. It's a means for bettor to compare their bets without having to get into a "who has bigger pockets?" contest. Hope that makes sense. Bottom line is that it varies from person to persona and can be anything from $1 to thousands of $$$
