Yes but Evangel was just making its name then. It had moved up to play 5A. Not many people realized what it would become.

Dude, Evangel was unanimously ranked in the Top 10 in the country (at least one publication had them #1) and Berlin was the National Player of the Year in 1999.

i was at the CHS v Evangel game in 99. it was a great atmosphere for HS FB and CHS hung tough for about a half. ECA had too many bullets.

We sacked Berlin four times in the first half an he fumbled twice. Prior to that game, he hadn't been sacked all year. We were tied at halftime. John David Booty started the 2nd half and drove Evangel right down and scored.

and after seeing Jason Campbell play on a hunting trip to MS... I remember telling someone that JC was a better player than BB... and I got ripped... to pieces...but I had the last laugh...

JC still in the league.... where is Berlin?

Berlin would take the snap 13 yards back and fling it. This was just when the spread passing attack started getting popular. Not exactly a good offense to run when you have to transition to CFB in a year.

Mandeville continues to prove people wrong. Great coaching, great D, great QB. Should be a good game vs the raiders.. I'm sure Mandy will have "no chance"

I saw Catholic play a couple of times and saw a weakness in the defense. Their defense gave up a lot of big plays this year. They lacked size and speed in the defensive backfield. I felt a team with a decent passing QB and good receivers could make them pay with big plays. Mandeville did that. Catholic hurt themselves with turnovers as well. Congrats to Mandeville on a good game.
