Gets 100 dropped on them tonight by UNC. Somehow, they scored 96 pts after only scoring 24 points in their prior game. Kind of baffling.

"NCSU basketball is the sleeping giant of the Triangle" is the North Carolina version of "ULL to the Big XII"
Its just not going to happen. And its weird because locally the NCSU fanbase dwarfs the other two. Nationally a different story obviously.

Never knew this. Interesting.

quote:NC State has a higher enrollment and most of their alumni stay in the area or at least in state. The other two’s alumni tend to leave the area. I live in Winston-Salem and often they’ll show UNC, NC State or Duke sports before they mention a Wake Forest game. It’s rare to see a NC license plate on campus here.

That’s weird to me. At UVA it seemed like there were regional quotas to ensure that the university represented the entire state. There was also a hard cap on out of state students.

That’s because Wake Forest University isn’t much bigger than Wake Forest HS lol

I think there is a 75 percent in-state quota at UNC.
Duke is the rare, maybe the only, private school with a quota and it’s at 15 percent.
NC State does have more undergrads than UNC though.

When did Duke shift to recruiting largely out of state students?
I imagine there was a huge cultural change?

I think it was always taking lots of students from other states, but it was mostly students from the south, up to DC.
I think they started getting much more interest from the Northeast and Midwest during Terry Sanford’s reign in the late 60s and 70s.
Now they pretty much have a desired percentage breakdown and just fill out their class the way they want. I would guess it’s 40 percent southern, 25 percent Northeast, 15 percent Midwest, 10 percent West Coast and 10 percent international.
There was a really strong international push in the early 2000s to get people from the international schools in Europe.
