Here's to hoping we get a good, clear outcome and not some BS result due to Hopkins' holding, fouling, faking, etc.

I honestly don't see Hopkins allowing himself to get knocked out. The moment he sees he's in trouble he'll fake an injury and check out of the fight. Kovalev is going to attack and pound Hopkins until he doesn't want anymore.

Should be a nice scrap on the co-feature between Sadam Ali and Luis Abregu.

I don't follow boxing closely. How does there end up being two belts in the first place?

There are four "major" belts...WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO

Hopkins has the WBA, IBF and Kovalev has the WBO. The WBC is held by Adonis Stevenson and he ran away from a fight with Kovalev and signed a deal with Showtime so he could have an excuse not to fight him.

I think - gulp - Hopkins wins.

That's what I'm rooting for too. May be wishful thinking.

Going to try to stream this fight while watching LSU-Bama.

You forgot close quarters headbutts and elbows. Hopkins won't get knocked out. I believe it will be Kovalev in the early rounds, Hopkins in the middle, and either way in the late.

Hopkins unifies but he will look as though he's been in a fight.

Ever since Hopkins has moved up to 175 he's become a fraud. He clinches constantly and throws low blows, elbows, head butts, etc. and it's always amazing how the ref never sees it. But then he fakes fouls and flops around to get points deducted from his opponent. The Winky Wright and Joe Calzaghe fights were disgusting to watch. Hopkins was the man when he was a middleweight but this fake BS show he puts on now it's an absolute joke. But then again, that's the only way a fighter in his late 40's can compete at the highest level.

If Hopkins wins the fair way and simply clowns Kovalev the same way he did Pavlik, I'll give that man ALL the credit in the world. I honestly will. How can anyone not do it in that case? However, if he wins by faking an injury or foul to get a DQ or wins a controversial, foul-filled fight....I'll give him nothing. I honestly expect to see lots of clinching, fouling and complaining. It's going to be a dirty fight. I'll go ape shite if Hopkins fouls Kovalev in the clinch and then when Kovalev retaliates Hopkins goes flying into the corner and pretends to be knocked out to draw the DQ.

But all that being said, Kovalev is 31 and is an absolute killer with Hopkins' former opponent and trainer in his corner. He has no business being in a tough fight with a man who is two months away from 50. Buuuuuuut we all said that about Trinidad and Pavlik and they got whooped

Kovalev via TKO....likely with Hopkins quitting in some form. He'll probably claim he's hurt between rounds and can't continue.

I think he has shown more action since he has moved up in weight. I've always recalled him clinching all the time and doing the dirty stuff. Dont recall much of the faking injuries and stuff. Even when Chad Dawson was whipping him I didnt see him faking injuries.

FWIW, I do think Kovalev wins this one.

Kovalev is beating Hopkins at his own slow-pace game

3-0 (20-17) Kovalev

If he keeps the pressure up, it's over. If he respects Hopkins and puckers up, Hopkins will figure him out and extend the fight.

Hopkins landed some goods shots in the 3rd but Kovalev was much more active and ended the round nicely.
