Blown PAT Call in Syracuse-Toledo Game

Some great news for the Boise haters.

How do you blow a PAT call? I can only imagine the reaction in Baton Rouge if this had happened to LSU. As for Boise State, their computer rankings already figured to be weaker this year than last year due to a weaker schedule, and this certainly won't help. If they finish the season undefeated, this loss by Toledo will make it that much easier for one-loss teams from AQ conferences (and perhaps even a two-loss LSU team) to jump them in the final BCS rankings.

With 2:07 left in the fourth quarter, Ryan Nassib connected with Alec Lemon on an 18-yard touchdown pass that gave Syracuse a 29-27 lead over Toledo, pending the extra point.
And that’s when all hell broke loose on what’s normally a routine one-point play.
Shortly after the extra point attempt left Ross Kautman‘s right foot, the officials to either side of the goalpost, part of a Big East crew, signaled the kick was good. The video evidence, however, strongly suggested that the kick had sailed wide left and never found its way inside the uprights at any point in time.
Unbelievably, the attempt was reviewed by replay officials and, despite indisputable video evidence, the call on the field was upheld and the Orange had a 30-27 lead. The Rockets ultimately tied the game at 30-all to send it to overtime, where they lost on an Orange field goal on its first and only possession. Were it not for the bogus call on the extra point, the Rockets would likely have headed back to Ohio with a 30-29 win.

I watched the game and that call was booty, you could clearly see the ball in front of the goalpost...I think they had the same replay officials from the Lsu/ bama game a couple of years ago. In the first half the refs also called a block in the back on a 95 yrd ko return when the Toledo player never touched him

that's totally inexcusable, the replay officials should lose their jobs for that.

Is there anything the NCAA can do to fix this? Is there any precedent for something like this?

They will offer an apology, suspend the video crew, and forget about this incident by next weekend.

That referee would't make it out of Baton Rouge alive.
The fricking National Guard couldn't contain the madness that would ensue had he cost us the game on such an easy call.

conference refs have to protect their conference... part of home-field advantage. i don't mind getting screwed sometimes as long as I know my team will get the breaks if they're in a position to benefit the conference

So......can we finally admit it is not just SEC refs who make mistakes and lots of them?

The two striped apes under the goal posts are the most at fault. How do you not see if it was inside or outside the upright?
Those two morons should see a heavy fine and a suspension.

If you watch the video. The guy on the "offending" goal post doesn't appear to be looking up.

Yep. He was staring straight ahead the whole time. Terrible.

+1
And no...a 2-loss LSU shouldn't make the BCS title game unless everyone else has 2 losses.
This isn't the frickin' NFL.
In fact, you'd be rewarding them for losing their 2 hardest games. Doesn't make any sense.

Also funny: the guy under the goal post on the other side also immediately signals that it's good. Typically you see them look over to the side the kick went to know if they should signal good or bad.
Shitty that nothing of consequence will come from this.
Is there any kind of formal protest Toledo can do in this situation?

I am not a conspiracy type of guy, but someone purposely made the wrong call here. There is no way that could be reviewed and not turned over. No doubt in my mind it was done purposely.

they have to release some sort of statement with suspensions and what not

I hear Roger Modell is going to reverse it. He has authority over NFL and NCAA now.
