re: Biggest Choke - Yankees or Red Sox

I never thought of it as the Yankees choking in 2004. The Red Sox were good. And playing well [don't forget they beat StL 4 in a row in the WS after beating the Yankees 4 in a row in the LCS].
The Yankees won 3 in a row, including a complete blow out in game 3 in Boston.
Games 4 and 5 were close, marathon extra inning games. And the Yankees lost to Shilling in game 6. No disgrace there.
And don't forget that the Yankees would have won game 5 if they weren't unlucky that a sure triple turned into a ground rule double near the Pesky pole in the 9th inning. If the ball doesn't hop over the low fence in the right field corner, the Yankees win the series in 5 games. End of discussion.
The only game that could have been considered a choke [IMO] was game seven. And the Yankees got in a hole so fast, it's hard to call that game a straight out choke.

Thats right I don't. Being UP 3-0 is being UP 3-0. Total CHOKE by the Yanks. No excuses.

I know you watched that series. And the only game of the 4 that was a choke (if that) was game 7, and it was over almost before it started.
I'm not making excuses -- I'm just telling it like it is.

Choke is a choke. YOU want CHOKE??? The Yanks overcame a 14 1/2 game lead to the red sox in 1978. They wore it down to four games and starting on sept 7th IN BOSTON the yanks crushed them 15-3 13-2 7-0 and 7-4. and blew the sox lead out of the water and then went TO Boston and won the onegame playoff. NOW THAT is a CHOKE OF epic proportions.

The Sox were down 3-0 and in Games 4 & 5, it took back-to-back blown saves by Rivera (which had never been done before) and extra inning wins to change the momentum of the series. And then Games 6 & 7 took place in New York....where the Sox finished off the comeback.
2004 Yankees is the correct answer.

And again, The Yankees lost four games to the World Champions.
But the Red Sox fall for an entire month to the likes of the Orioles and the Blue Jays. Some teams rise up. They self-destructed against nobodys.
Sorry, as unbelievable and epic as this 2004 was, good teams can choke against good teams. They aren't supposed to choke against bad teams...for an entire month (hell, they even choked against good teams). And they had more than four shots to correct it...

Same here....not only were the games great, but there was some awesome drama to go with it.

quote:Ya, the whole storyline behind the Red Sox/ Yankees and on the other end you had a great Astros/Cardinals series if I remember right. I cheered for the Red Sox to come back form that 3-0 hole not because I like them, just because I am a baseball fan and it made for a great story and great games. Ever since then though, I can't stand to see the Red Sox's win. They are a team full of douchebags besides Varitek. So glad they blew that game last night.
