I don't know the math, but I would be willing to bet you have a higher expected points against value giving it up at the 2 yard line than giving up a safety and a free kick. My guess would be around 6 the first way and 5 the second way, but the second way would also burn more clock. I don't know if that makes sense, but it does in my head.

That solves nothing

Incomplete pass gives the other team the ball right there. Might as well try to punt it out of there
