FYI:

Thanks for all the interest in Coach Toledo's 2009 recruiting class.

A nice NSD for Tulane (and of course, LSU).

Fantastic class for Tulane.

Let's hope this translates into WINS (not just moral victories) on the field!

That said, Toledo is doing about all he can in the short time he's been at Tulane.
There are several obvious institutional changes he has already begun to address:
- the use of redshirts, creating roster depth, defending against the spread, focused recruiting, building local relationships, etc.

***Tulane Football's 1st 2010 Commitment***

Tulane Bound - Natchitoches Times

Offensive lineman becomes Tulane's first 2010 football commitment - neworleans.com
- Bob Toledo has his first commitment for the class of 2010. Offensive lineman David "Ben" Stone of St. Mary's of Natchitoches has verbally cast his lot with Tulane, choosing the Green Wave over ULL and McNeese State.
- The 6'4, 270 pound Stone is projected to play guard at Tulane despite starting at right tackle for St. Mary's. Stone, who also plays basketball for Tigers, is fully qualified with a 24 on his ACT.
- Watching Stone, he is good in space, adept with his feet, good at pulling to lead on screens or sweeps and plays with good leverage. He gets off the ball very well. He will be a project, having played at the 1A level in high school. St. Mary's was 4-7 in 2008, losing in the Bi-District round of the state playoffs to Haynesville, 43-13.

Tulane football gets commitment from offensive lineman for 2010 - Times-Picayune
- St. Mary's of Natchitoches offensive lineman Ben Stone, the decision to become the first commitment in Tulane's 2010 football recruiting class.
- Stone, 6 feet 4, 260 pounds, with 5.6 speed in the 40-yard dash, is entering his fourth year as a starter at right tackle for St. Mary's, but he likely projects as an offensive guard at Tulane. He is fully qualified with a 24 on the ACT.

Also:
Also, Tulane, Toledo and his staff kick off the first of their five one-day high school football camps Tuesday at West Monroe High School.
- Camp No.2 is scheduled for Wednesday at Barbe High School in Lake Charles
- and is followed by two sessions on Thursday beginning with a morning stop at St. Thomas More of Lafayette and an evening session (5 p.m. to 10 p.m.) at Memorial Stadium in Baton Rouge.
- The fifth and final camp is scheduled for Saturday at Tulane.
The four morning camps at West Monroe, Barbe, St. Thomas More and Tulane run from 8 a.m. to noon, with registration available from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Camps are for student-athletes entering grades 9-12.

Me too, but Stone IS a project.
I'm just happy to see Coach keeping up the recruiting efforts.
Despite the nice '09 recruiting class, wins on the field are the ultimate recruiting tool.

Observation of the Day

Based on a quick review -
Looks like there are only 17 Div. 1A/FBS football schools that are PRIVATE (listed below in order of all-time wins).
Only 7 are in non-BCS conferences (in bold):

1. Notre Dame
2. Southern Cal.
3. Syracuse
4. BC
5. Tulsa
6. TCU
7. Stanford
8. Vandy
9. Miami
10. Baylor
11. BYU
12. *Tulane*
13. Northwestern
14. Duke
15. SMU
16. Rice
17. Wake Forest

A 'mixed' list of schools - only a few elites.
Damn you state schools!

(Any corrections to the list are welcome)

Actually, no - I do check it out, along w/ the Wave Report, on a regular basis. Thought I'd highlight the above fact w/o all the Tulane intensive discussion.

yogwf.com and Rivals' Wave Report are both pretty good.
Each are great sources for inside info about Tulane (sports, academics, admin news, etc.) and LA football/sports generally.

toledo is recruiting way better than scelfo did. the last class had either 6 or 7 three stars, which equals the total from tulane's 4 previous classes combined. at least i think that's what it was. it's something similar to that

To be fair, Scelfo had some hurdles that Bob doesn't have to deal with AS MUCH. Prior to 2003, Scelfo did an excellent job recruiting. There was a stark change after the review...
