Anyone watch NBA TV’s documentary on the 1996 Draft that premiered last night?

Great trip down memory lane.
One of the things discussed was the iconic Slam cover photo.
No one knows why A.I, (not even A.I himself), wasn’t in the photo or where he was when it was taken even though it was taken at a mandatory NBA Rookie symposium in Orlando:
2 of the players selected in the 2nd round had interesting footnotes:
Mark Hendrickson, selected 31st overall by the 76ers, played a few season before going to MLB where he pitched for 10 years. Besides being only the 13th player to ever play in both the NBA and MLB, he was the pitcher that gave up Ken Griffey Jr’s 600th home run
The very next player drafted, Ryan Minor, (who was also selected by the 76ers), decided to go the MLB route instead. What makes him notable is that he is the player who replaced Cal Ripken Jr in the O’s starting lineup, which ended Ripken’s consecutive game streak
Would recommend. They had about 15 or so players from that draft that took part in the documentary
It is airing all this week. Just be aware that it’s 2 parts, (an hour each), if you go to record it

I didn’t even know about it. That was a great era for me as a kid! They don’t make draft classes like those anymore.

Did they talk about the iconic Kobe workout for the Lakers?
Posted on 4/12/21 at 4:48 pm to NFLU
Jerry West and Mitch Kupchak were both on and talked about how bad they wanted Kobe
The Nets at 8 were the biggest threat to take Kobe, but Calipari wanted a more experienced player and took Kerry Kittles, a college senior instead
Within 3 weeks, the Lakers drafted Kobe and Derek Fisher and signed Shaq.
An interesting side note on the Lakers trade to get Kobe, West actually had a better deal in place at the beginning. He had Charlotte agree to give them Kobe plus the Lakers having the option to swap a future 1st round pick with them for Vlade. But since Vlade said he was gonna retire instead of going to the Hornets, West had to remove the pick swap with them to get Charlotte to take the chance based on Vlade’s threat

Kobe’s left hand was in a cast, so they made him hide it behind him.
According to Jerry West, Kobe would go anywhere and play against anyone because he didn’t care and that he broke it playing at Venice Beach
And that open space between Ray Allen and Kerry Kittles is where A.I would have been

From what I’ve read in the past, Calipari told those around him that Kobe was the next Jordan after his Nets workout and desperately wanted him. However, his agent told the Nets org that Kobe refused to play for them which is why they took Kittles.
That guy on ESPN who worked for the Nets repeatedly told the owner and Cal to call his bluff.
Kobe told him after the Lakers beat the Nets in the Finals that he would have played for them.
