We are going to talk about this shite every year until they get a playoff system. I don't understand why they just don't work the bowl games into the playoff system.

Look...unless and until they get a playoff...this and the other "usual arguments" will occur year after year after year. Completely stupid why there is no playoff...not even a +1 system. It's fricking retarded, and I have yet to hear any logical reason why they can't do a playoff. (Hell, take every conference champion and have a playoff...or take the top 8 in the BCS) Apart from money (or some wrong perception that a playoff will reduce income in some way that I don't understand), there is no other halfway intelligent reason why a playoff system is not in place.
If somebody can explain the "thinking" to me as to why a playoff wouldn't work, I'm listening...

True. GT should be in the Orange Bowl...the ACC is screwy. I don't think, though, you can call that conference a gauntlet. Everyone seems to be about equal - literally every team from Duke to GT to Maryland to UVA to NS State to VT to Miami.

yes, so, I don't think anyone is arguing that Boise should be in the BCS CG, just a BCS bowl over VT or Cincinnati.

I honestly didn't keep up with Boise this year....which top 20 team did they beat?

Even in the shitty Big East the aggregate of Cinci's/Va Tech's schedule is better than the one game schedule that Boise St. played this year.
If a midmajor wants a BCS bowl they should
1) Not schedule 1AA teams
2) Schedule more than one BCS conference team
If you don't do that then frick you, which is my position on Boise St. this year.

or they could qualify (like Boise this year) in a year where no other mid-major qualifies.

The NCAA should take over scheduling as opposed to the AD's. The NFL could teach the NCAA a thing or two for once.
That or go with the FCS proposal.

True they would have, but to me Boise St.'s case this year is only slightly better than Hawaii's last year(I think Boise St. this year is much better than Hawaii last year, but the is somewhat beside the point.)
Simply because a team got put in a bad situation because of another team's performance does not mean that they deserve to go or that the system is screwed up.
Boise St. didn't do everything they could to make an argument for a bid and they got unlucky that Utah was good too, however I still don't think that Boise St. deserves to go. TTU deserves to go more than they do.

Or maybe do a playoff beginning the week after the ccg's. they would be finished and a champ crowned before these meaningless bowls started. For tradition's sake, keep the bowls, meaningless exhibition games played in warm climate cities in the middle of winter. In fact let the bowls revert back to the old bowl system...no BCS selection BS, they invite who they want, when they want. There's no reason they couldn't do this after a 3 or 4 week playoff is concluded.
There's no reason this couldn't be done.
It would shut up the debate on who get's screwed every year and give us some better bowl matchups well.
But it will never happen, because the BCS "get's it right"

the automatic bids in the BCS need to end. i say only take the top 10 teams and nobody else. also the ACC needs to fix their divisions, it's really screwed up.

Ok,
I hate to tell all of you fans; but they have you by the balls, just like everyone else.
You want to know why Ohio State is going to a BCS game? Cause they travel better than ANY alumni base, and in this economy, that is needed. And yes, I know that tigers will attest to how many came to N.O. and gave that economy a huge boost in January
This is all about money. If you're the Fiesta bowl committee, are you realistically going to tell me you'd give up the chance to have Texas/Ohio State for Utah/Ohio State? Do I give a flying F if fans in Louisiana or Nevada don't like me when there are 60,000 Ohio State fans spending cash in my city and making my game sold out and looking great (did you see the empty seats in the sugar? Could get them for 20$)
These BCS bowls were guarenteed about 3 weeks ago, as soon as Oregon beat Oregon State
