He runs the place like it's Evangeline Downs....is Churchill really telling him to flood the cards with conditioned 5s? Cheap statebred races that belong at Delta? The racebook hasn't been change in a decade. That's not CD.
Churchill sends their hotshot young executives to Colonial and Ellis Park; FG gets the Evangeline Downs dudes.
How does Churchill get away 70K MSW for low-handle tracks like Colonial and even Ellis, while FG, where they gamble like maniacs, is barely 50? Why does the Racing Commission let them get away with that??
The excuse WAS that the purses would rise when "Instant Racing" got here; well that was obviously nonsense.
FG could have a great meet. But nobody seems to want that. 70K and a professional Racing Office would do wonders.

Because those guys are fukin clueless that's why. Landry and his crony got who they wanted on the commission and they cant spell Horse.

The purses were starting to get close to 70K but now that has taken a back seat because the HHR machines were ruled illegal so they had to take them out. Blame that on one person.

Well, CD knew the state law , when they bought the FG twenty years ago. It boils down to LA owning the slots/poker machines, and CD owning the HHR machines. They're all slots, as far as I'm concerned. CD didn't get what they wanted from Louisiana, and I can assure you, they ain't adding more money to the purse structure. Colonial and Turfway, are way ahead of FG.

Correct they knew the law.

Agree they are all slots but the truck stops had another idea. Have to wait to 2026 to vote on the HHR machines if CDI chooses to go that route which i think they will try and get them passed.

Why can't they just put the machines on a ballot for approval?
Video Poker operators do it again. Aren't they the ones who messed up Bryan Krantz, who did a really good considering the forces around him.

FG has a hard time filling better claiming races for many reasons I would think, but purses has got to be at the top of the list. It's not just Oaklawn (which is really a claiming meet, and a great one) but even Delta has claiming better purses at some levels.

Amazing that FG is still a much stronger better feeder for Kentucky and 3 year old racing in general than Oaklawn, despite the wide purse gap.

They can in 2026. Can only put it on the ballot in even numbered years

I think the better trainers are at FG but now you see Asmussen, Cox, and a few others have stables at Oaklawn now and you cant blame them. Oaklawn is closing the gap in terms of 3 yr old quality racing and there stakes schedule for 3 yr olds is getting every good in terms of the purse money they offer 3 yr olds

Seriously? You believe FG is better "feeder" than Oaklawn? Its nothing more than Delta with a turf course. Go read the condition book for state bred, as opposed to open company. Its awful. The state law in LA requires FG to write at least 5 state bred races every day, which equals too many 5-10k claimers. Thats why its a shite meet. They're aren't good enough state breds to run in open company. Only thing thats attracting outfits, is that HISA has no jurisdiction in LA. Thats going to change in a few years, because CD is going to put a stranglehold on shippers from LA. Since they didn't come to an agreement with the HHR negotiations, CD is out for blood. They are that vindictive.
