The NBA max salary is a good-but-not-great player's biggest impediment to winning championships.
Up until a couple of years ago Chris Paul was paid about as well as the top players. But he's never been quite as good as those guys.
If he's not as good as those guys he needs more around him, but he can only get as much help as those top guys get. That pretty much blocks him from breaking through.
