re: Andre Drummond to UConn (CBB)

He has a turn-around jumper and can put the ball on the floor and go to the basket. Not every player is going to have a back to the basket game, especially guys like Drummond who were able to get by on size and athleticism his entire life.
He's going to be one of the best bigs in the country the entire season IMO. This year's UConn has to be one of the longest teams in recent history, 4 starers with wingspans over 7' and another off the bench.

and Anthony Davis is soft.
Uh. No.
If soft means big man with the handles of a point guard that was one of the leading shot blockers in the country then sure. He played extremely well in the Nike Global Challenge and in several other AAU events. He may not have the weight to play a body-up post game but that doesn't mean he can't take on a role much like Varnado had at MSU with solid defense, a nice jumper, and shot-blocking prowess.
As far as Drummond, I do find it convenient that UConn was able to talk a kid into giving up his scholarship and taking on a student loan out of his own pocket to let this kid on the team. Nothing like promising a kid a scholarship then coming in with, "oh by the way, we have someone better than you who needs it for this season". For all the bitching people do about Calipari, Calhoun is about ten times dirtier.

I said that as an exaggeration. And only reason being because he was outplayed by one of our recruits.

Fair enough.
I'll at least say he's bulked up a little bit. I ran into him at an exhibition game recently and he's put on about 25 lbs.

Ya kind of an attempt at smack
We brought in a kid from Charlotte (who I said outplayed Davis in one fame during an AAU tourney sometime last year) who's pretty strong in the paint, came in at 6-8 220 and has added more weight over the summer to be around the 235-240 line. (No not the Alshon diet, I've seen this kid, no beer gut on him)
I just hope our coach can turn our program around, he started off so well.

It's all good. I still hate Devan Downey so we'll call it a wash.
I liked Horn when he was at WKU but always heard he tended to butt heads with the admin there. He's a good coach though and he's certainly recruiting better than what you were getting before he was there so it's only a matter of time before those guys develop into some real talent. You've got a nice stable of 3 and 4 star guys that should really start to come into their own in their Jr. and Sr. years. I wouldn't sell him short just yet.

There hasn't been a big this physically gifted to enter college since...??? Bosh is the only recent player that comes to mind and Drummond has 50 pounds on him.
