2008 Olympian heavyweight Deontay Wilder (15-0, 15 KOs) handed former WBO light heavyweight title challenger DeAndrey Abron (15-7, 10 KOs) his sixth straight loss on Saturday night at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The bout was waved off at 1:23 of round two with Wilder battering Abron on the ropes. Time was 1:23. This was the first fight card sanctioned by the new Alabama boxing commission.

Glad to see the home grown boys can actually fight in state. I really have high hopes for Wilder, but he needs to get better people around him. I just don't have much faith in his managers or trainers.

Enough with the tomato cans. Bring on some real fighters.

Damn I thought I had a ticket to this last night, but my neighbor sold it before I could get back to him.

I think I would question you if you were his manager... Calling for them to "bring on some real fighters" when Wilder has never been past the 4th round.

He is a 6 round fighter now, and is being brought along slowly for a reason. That's because he goes out and tries to get everyone out of there as fast as he can. He lacks confidence in his own skills (which are formidable) and his management is taking him slow because right now he isn't fighting relaxed.

Bring on some real fighters now, and get him beat

ETA, he was actually dropped in that one fight he did get to thr 4th round in by a journeyman fighter with a losing record because he didn't remain patient and got into a slugging match with a brawler and got caught.

I'm not saying go after the Klitschkos. That would be silly, but he has 15 fights under his belt and I haven't seen any real improvement in his competition. At some point you have to put him in there with someone that might be able to beat him.

Of course, the lack of legitimate competition might not be his or his trainer's fault. There are not a lot of mid level heavies out there. Other than maybe Audley Harrison who is there? It's seems there are either the guys that were bouncing at the strip club the night before or elite fighters with extensive amateur records.

I guess I expected him to be a bit further along. I wanted to see him on a few HBO undercards by now, but he will get there eventually. He's a 6'6 American Heavyweight who can hit and who can move. I just hope his trainers have prepared him when he gets his time under the lights.

I'm not sure that his trainers and management are capable of doing that.

I guess you are right about the heavies.

There really isn't a good stepping level to move to elite competition

There are complete cans, journeymen who can push a good heavy but won't beat him, and guys who are or have been around the top

I think he does need to get at
Least one of those journeymen that will make him go the full 6 before he moves up to 8 and 10 rounders. There is where he will find stiffer competition

ETA, forgot to add, the other fighters that would be a step up are in the same boat he is in. Young, talented fighters who are working their way up. You don't want to fight one of those guys until down the road when it means something and you are getting Paid

Wilder came late to the sport. I think people are going to give him a bit more lee-way in regards to when he steps up the competition.

IMO, his management is being very smart about it. He has a lot of potential but needs to be brought along slowly.
